Scenic Charge Artist:
The historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA, the oldest continuously operating summer theater in America, is accepting resumes for a Scenic Charge Artist for our 2026 Summer Season which includes 5 mainstage productions to be announced at a later date, two concerts, and various smaller events throughout the summer. The rate for this position is $20.00/hour paid bi-weekly. This is a full time position with opportunity for overtime after 40 hrs a week. This contract begins part time, remotely, as early as March 2nd and full time on Cape Cod starting May 4th. The position ends on September 13th. There is some flexibility to start and end dates. Housing may be provided on Cape Cod.
The Scenic Charge Artist reports to the Technical Director.
The Scenic Charge Artist will determine and lead the paint treatments of all scenic, props, electrics, or set dressing elements on all seasonal productions including mainstage shows, concerts, and galas. The Charge Artist will oversee the scenic artists, apprentices and other staff in safe and proper usage of Paint Department tools, techniques, and materials. They will maintain consistent communication with the Scenic Designer throughout the build process and advance of each show, ensuring that all shows are being painted and supplies ordered in a timely fashion.
Applicant must have excellent communication skills and be a team player. Skills required include advanced painting skills, crafting, finishing, and group leadership.
