Description
The Aspen Music Festival + School (AMFS) Percussion Manager works closely with the production, operations and orchestra management teams. The percussion team is responsible for all percussion instruments used for the 8-week summer festival consisting of both rental and AMFS-owned instruments. The Percussion Manager oversees a staff of two percussion crew members and reports to the Director of Production.
DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate the use of percussion instruments for all festival rehearsals and performances at all locations, including percussion practice rooms, studios, rehearsal and performance spaces. Move and setup percussion for musicians at rehearsals and concerts.
Work closely with faculty and students to implement procedures for requesting and checking out practice instruments throughout the summer season.
Complete an inventory of all AMFS owned instruments and perform necessary maintenance tasks prior to the start of the festival.
In collaboration with faculty and the Director of Production, assemble the percussion rental order with the appropriate vendor(s) based on the repertoire programmed.
Evening and weekend work to be expected.
Requirements
Detailed knowledge of orchestral repertoire, including exposure to contemporary music.
Extensive knowledge of all equipment in a percussion battery, and knowledge of how to safely transport all equipment.
Experience in minor repair of percussion gear (including replacing heads, repairing pedals, working with tension instruments, basic handyman skills (carpentry, hardware, basic knowledge of mechanics of moving parts, etc.).
Ability to maintain and tune multiple sets of timpani in rotation to the specifications of faculty and guest artists.
Work quickly, efficiently and collaboratively, balancing the needs of multiple ensembles and individuals, with a strict attention to detail and strong emphasis on customer service.
Ability to effectively lead a crew with attention to scheduling and tracking overtime hours.
Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance.
This position requires a valid driver+rsquo;s license and a clean driving record. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.
Dates
In Aspen June 12, 2026 to August 27, 2026. Additional remote pre-season work February to June.
Compensation
$1,204.26 weekly salary. $30.11/hour for remote pre-season work.
Benefits include summer housing, AMFS season pass, and paid sick time.
