A four-show repertory model keeps Opera Theatre of Saint Louis fresh and dynamic. Our production team brings together seasoned professionals and emerging talent, working side by side in our build shops and 987-seat theater. Uniting artists at different stages of their careers is central to our mission to cultivate the next generation of production professionals.

Previous props construction experience and knowledge of multiple fabrication methods are required. The Props Artisans are assigned build projects based on their knowledge and skills. They work closely with the Props Managers to create the props for all four shows in the season.

Primary responsibilities include building props from approved designs in various media, assisting the Props Managers and fellow artisans as needed, responding to notes, repairing and restoring items as needed, helping with props transfers, and participating in general shop activities.

Props Artisans may be assigned periodic night and weekend work as determined by the Props Manager. Physical requirements include repetitive motion, lifting up to 50lb, sitting or standing for long periods of time, safely using resin, paint, and other volatile compounds, and operating moving machinery (sewing machine, 3D printer, etc.)

Use of a personal vehicle in St. Louis is highly likely. Mileage reimbursement at the federal rate is available.
