The Texas Shakespeare Festival is a rotating repertory professional theatre in East Texas. Their 2026 season of shows are: Midsummer Night's Dream, Emma, Hamlet, 1776, and The Reluctant Dragon.
May 12 arrive /July 29 depart
$5,000 stipend / up to $300 travel / private dorm housing / 11 meals a week
Minimum Requirements: Strong carpentry and fabrication skills, including finish work and nontraditional materials (foam, plastics, metal). Proficiency with hand and power tools; welding experience preferred. Ability to work independently and meet fast-paced deadlines, ability to routinely lift at least 50 pounds, spend extended periods of time on your feet, and to work a varied schedule and at heights above 25'. Ideal candidate should feel comfortable driving a truck and 16+rsquo; trailer, be self-motivated, safety conscious, maintain tools, safety, and shop organization, with at least two years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of educational and other experience in a supervisory capacity. Experience with AutoCad a plus.
Responsible for:
Working closely with the Technical Director and Shop Supervisor to build the season+rsquo;s most complex scenic elements and ensure all scenery is safe, durable, and efficient for repertory use.
Build advanced scenic pieces, including finished carpentry, sculpted or carved elements, and welded structures
Lead small build crews as needed and assist in training carpenters and crew
Read and interpret shop drawings; create accurate cut lists and layouts
Collaborate with the Technical Director on safe and practical construction methods
Participate in load-ins, changeovers, and strikes
