SUMMARY:

North Shore Music Theatre, a 1500-seat arena-style theater, is seeking a full time Assistant Paints Lead.

Ideal candidates should have a positive attitude and willingness to collaborate in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to follow instructions and be comfortable climbing ladders, working at heights and lifting a minimum of 50 pounds. Must have strong interpersonal skills.

The Assistant Paints Lead helps the Paints lead to manage the day to day operations of the paint shop and functions as a scenic artist for the organization.

Reports to: Lead Paints + Director of Production

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Participate in the painting, ornamentation and dressing of all Main Stage productions, Concerts, Education Shows, Special Events, and additional projects that may be added during the season including projects at Theatre By The Sea, NSMT's sister theater.
● Paint and/or dress Scenery as requested by Designers or NSMT Artistic Director under the direction of the Paints Lead
● Helps maintain the paint shop equipment and inventory
● Assists in coordinating the paint shop schedule with other production departments
● Prepare all scenery for layout and detail work under the direction of the Paints Lead
● Prepare touch-ups throughout production runs under the direction of the Paints Lead


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

● Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre preferred or work experience to match
● Minimum of two years experience in a paint shop
● Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
● Working knowledge of scenery construction and painting techniques for materials including wood, steel, fabric and foam.
● Experience in foam carving, textures, faux finishes and other mediums commonly used in theatrical design.
● Knowledge and experience in theatrical backdrop painting
● Ability to multitask and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
● Must be self-motivated with strong organizational skills; a positive attitude is essential.
● Strong conflict resolution skills required
