Basic Function

The Head Electrician is responsible for overseeing and operating all electrical and lighting systems in the Knight Concert Hall. This includes supervision of the lighting crew, maintenance of equipment and infrastructure, and safe, efficient support of all stage productions from load-in through load-out. The position reports to the Director of Production.

Responsibilities

+bull; Operate and maintain the hall+rsquo;s electrical, electronic, and electromechanical systems safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.
+bull; Supervise load-ins, setups, performances, and load-outs for all events in the Knight Concert Hall.
+bull; Organize and maintain inventory of lighting equipment, cables, and related accessories.
+bull; Program and operate lighting systems using MA3 consoles.
+bull; Operate and maintain house, stage, and lobby Strand dimming systems, lighting fixtures, and control networks.
+bull; Work with guest lighting designers and programmers to assist with operation of the house MA3 console and lighting rig, or to support the integration of their touring console and lighting package.
+bull; Program and design lighting for concerts, special events, and internal productions as required.
+bull; Perform moving-light troubleshooting and repair to ensure show readiness and minimize downtime.
+bull; Conduct network troubleshooting and integration of MA-Net, Art-Net, sACN, and ETCnet systems for show and architectural control.
+bull; Manage and oversee capital projects, coordinating with contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards.
+bull; Maintain, program, and troubleshoot ETC Paradigm systems and ETC Lighting Designer software for both performance and architectural lighting.
+bull; Create and update lighting documentation using Vectorworks and Lightwright, ensuring accurate plots, patch sheets, and circuit schedules.
+bull; Identify and report unsafe working conditions and initiate corrective action.
+bull; Review and interpret production riders in advance of events to ensure technical readiness.
+bull; Assist with planning and budgeting for maintenance, upgrades, and production requirements.
+bull; Coordinate work calls, scheduling, and crew assignments with the Technical Director.
+bull; Manage and supervise IATSE crews, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
+bull; Determine qualifications and training needs for MA3 programmers, spotlight operators, and other crew positions to ensure safety and competency.

Ideal Experience

+bull; Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Head Electrician or comparable position in a major performing arts venue or live-production environment.
+bull; At least two (2) years of MA3 programming experience.
+bull; Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including moving-light, network, and system repair.
+bull; Experience managing capital projects and collaborating with contractors.
+bull; Strong organizational and leadership skills; experience coordinating technical crews.
+bull; Thorough knowledge of theatrical lighting, power distribution, Strand dimming systems, and control infrastructure.
+bull; Proficiency with ETC Paradigm, Vectorworks, Lightwright, and lighting-network protocols including MA-Net, sACN, Art-Net, and ETCnet.
+bull; Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and work at height using ladders or personnel lifts.
+bull; Availability for variable work hours, including nights and weekends.

+bull; The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from multiple people and interact with the public and other staff.
