The Hartt School, University of Hartford seeks skilled scenic carpenters for project-based, on-call work in our production shop. These flexible roles support our theater season and offer opportunities to stay engaged with our team.
Responsibilities include scenic fabrication in wood, metal, and plastic; interpreting technical drawings; assisting with load-ins, strikes, and shop organization; supervising small teams; and maintaining a safe, collaborative work environment. Use of chemical-based products and participation in tool maintenance and packing are expected.
Required Qualifications: Strong theatrical construction skills; familiarity with Broadway/Hollywood flats, platforming, and stage terminology; safe and proficient use of shop tools and chemical products; comfortable working at heights (up to 30 feet) and driving a 26-foot box truck; reliable transportation and a valid driver+rsquo;s license with a safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications: Welding and rigging experience preferred; prior scenic fabrication experience strongly recommended.
