Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the Scenic Carpenter will construct scenic elements as drawn and engineered by the Technical Director (TD) and/or Assistant Technical Director (ATD). They will participate in the build, load-in, remount and strike process.
Key responsibilities include:
+bull; Building scenic elements safely, efficiently, and according to ATC+rsquo;s expectations and standards.
+bull; Meeting with the Technical Director to become familiar with the details of each scenic design in order to effectively execute the design.
+bull; Participate in the loading in, remounting, and striking of shows.
+bull; Leading a team of Over-hire Stagehands, ensuring accurate and quality execution of work.
+bull; Maintaining safe, operational, and organized work areas.
+bull; Assisting with presentations, special events, and third-party rentals.
+bull; Attending staff meetings.
+bull; Ensuring all safety protocols are being upheld in alignment with ATC Safety Manual.
+bull; Promoting and cultivating a safe and organized work environment
+bull; Other duties as assigned
Experience, Skills, and Attributes:
+bull; Experience with theatrical carpentry and welding techniques.
+bull; Skilled utilizing a range of materials, techniques, hand and power tools.
+bull; Experience in reading and building from technical drawings.
+bull; Experience participating in a load-in and strike process.
+bull; Knowledge of safe practices regarding basic theatrical rigging and counterweight flying systems operations.
+bull; Effective communicator with Staff Stagehands and Over-hire Stagehands.
+bull; Able to promote and cultivate a safe and organized work environment.
+bull; Attentive to detail, accountable and skilled in time management.
+bull; Basic knowledge of CNC operations (ShopBot).
+bull; Experience with crew leadership.
+bull; Able to or willingness to learn to drive a 26+rsquo; box truck.
+bull; Able to or willingness to learn to drive a forklift.
+bull; Commitment to ATC+rsquo;s mission, values, and to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and equitable workplace.
Physical Demands and Scheduling Requirements:
+bull; Must be able to lift and move items weighing 60 pounds.
+bull; Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting, bending, crawling, and climbing ladders.
+bull; Ability to work from heights (e.g. grids, catwalks, ladders, loading bridge and personnel lifts).
+bull; Schedule varies based on production needs and may require working nights and weekends. Workdays could be long and could include periods of either sitting or standing.
+bull; Short Tempe/Phoenix residencies required based on production schedules.
This position will be represented by IATSE Local# 415 upon CBA ratification, which may result in employment term changes.
