Scenic Fabricator - CU Adventures in Time and Space, Urbana IL

Job Dates : Starting Sept./Oct., (6-12 month contracts based on applicants availability)

Pay : $19 an hour (sliding scale upwards commensurate with experience) (40 hour week)

Project/Position Description : The best way to describe this business is to picture a minigolf course, mixed with a ren faire, mixed with a Meow Wolf art installation, mixed with an escape room, mixed with a tavern. That is Parcadia! We are currently working on 2 golf courses; one is an immersive Dungeons and Dragons-style quest, while the second is a putting adventure through a neon scifi cityscape. Ideal candidates will have experience in scenic construction, set dressing, and thrive in a fast-paced, freeform, creative, and collaborative environment.
Reports to : Lead Scenic Designer/Fabricator

Company Overview : Award-winning escape room company, CU Adventures, is looking to hire scenic fabricators and carpenters to assist in the continuing construction of Parcadia : a 16,000 sq. ft. fantasy-themed minigolf bar!

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
- Construct scenic elements as directed by the Lead Scenic Fabricator, Artistic Director, and Owners;
- Collaborate well with other designers, carpenters, and fabricators to complete given builds and other tasks;
- Use creative thinking and knowledge of construction processes to give input and insight on best build practices for individual projects;
- Safe operation and use of standard power tools; table saw, jigsaw, circular saw, chop saw, impact drivers and drills, sanders, and other hand tools;
- Assist in rigging scenery and other large props as needed;
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace

Work Hours + Benefits : Full time work with paid time off. Relocation stipend potentially available for the right candidate

Start Date : ASAP (September/October start)

Qualifications + Experience :
-2+ years of scene shop experience strongly preferred
-Carpentry/scenic construction experience
-Welding/metalworking is a plus
-Scenic Painting skills are a plus
-Ability to multitask, while working safely and efficiently
-Creative problem-solving skills
-Able to routinely lift and move 50 pounds
-Willing to climb ladders/scaffolding and work at heights when necessary
-A willingness to jump into this exciting endeavor with us!
