Job Title: Costume Technician (Wardrobe/Stitcher)
Department: Production
Reports To: Costume Shop Director, Shop Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Seasonal Full-Time
Pay Tier: 4

Summary

Trinity Repertory Company seeks a costume technician to join our fast-paced Costume Department. The costume technician, under general direction is responsible for alternating wardrobe (show call) duties and stitcher (shop call) duties, throughout the season. The costume technician will work closely with the costume shop director and shop supervisor to plan and execute workflow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Show Call:

+bull; Prepares necessary wardrobe paperwork for the run of the show (ex. Dressing lists, preset checklists, run sheets etc.)
+bull; Determines and sets up logical and effective changing areas and ensures quick changes go smoothly
+bull; Carries out the preset accurately and consistently throughout the entire run of the production
+bull; Carries out cleaning, pressing, steaming, mending, repairing, and replacing as necessary for each show
+bull; Ensures that all costumes are ready to wear at showtime
+bull; Keeps laundry room and wardrobe spaces clean and tidy, letting supervisors know when show supplies are needed
+bull; Keeps costumes and accessories for show in order
+bull; Depending on needs of the show, may carry out daily wig maintenance and assist actors with hair/wig needs during the show
+bull; Assist with striking the show at the end of the run
+bull; Serve as lead dresser/wardrobe supervisor when on show call with the seasonal apprentice, acting as a mentor while apprentice assists in wardrobe duties that the costume technician assigns them (with direction, as needed, from costume shop director or shop supervisor)
+bull; Serve as lead dresser/wardrobe supervisor on show call with over hire wardrobe assistant and/or wig runner
+bull; Other duties as assigned by costume shop director or costume designer

Shop Call:

+bull; Carry out all construction, stitching and alteration projects as assigned
+bull; Assist in note taking and fittings as needed
+bull; Assist with strike and/or pull
+bull; Assist with packing/unpacking and shopping/rental returns
+bull; Helps to keep shop organized and individual workspace tidy
+bull; Assist with craft or wig projects as needed
+bull; Other duties as assigned by the costume shop director or shop supervisor

Education and/or Experience

+bull; Three or more years of professional experience and/or training in theatrical costuming, stitching and running wardrobe; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Technical/Computer Skills

+bull; Knowledge of theatrical production practices and procedures
+bull; Effective communication skills
+bull; Demonstrated proficient sewing construction and alteration skills
+bull; Basic crafting
+bull; Basic hair/makeup skills
+bull; Microsoft Office Suite
+bull; Google Workspace
+bull; File share software (Dropbox, One Drive)

Language Skills

Must be an excellent communicator with the ability to communicate transparently and effectively across mediums. The ability and passion to work inclusively with all ages and diverse populations.

+bull; Must be able to carry items while climbing and descending stairs
+bull; Must be able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time
+bull; Must be able to climb a ladder up to 6 feet
+bull; Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time
+bull; Must be able to regularly ascend and descend stairs to navigate all areas of the theater
+bull; Must have the physical ability to regularly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (printer, scanner, copier).
