Technical Coordinator, Playwrights Horizons (Uptown + Downtown)

Playwrights Horizons is a writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work, and Playwrights Downtown is a facility that houses both the Playwrights Horizons Theater School and Studios @440.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Technical Coordinator to coordinate the day-to-day maintenance and repair of Playwrights Downtown+rsquo;s Moss Theater and associated equipment, to lead the Lighting Department for Playwrights Uptown+rsquo;s spaces, in addition to overseeing the production and technical aspects of all Downtown rentals. The ideal candidate is comfortable closely liaising with the PHTS Production Supervisor as well as freelance Production Managers, Designers and technical staff to approve and fulfill PHTS production and classroom equipment needs and PH Uptown Production Lighting needs. The Technical Coordinator is a full-time non-exempt position that will work on site between the Uptown and Downtown locations and will include night and weekend work.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as the technical adviser for Playwrights Horizons Theater School+rsquo;s 2 Mainstage Productions in collaboration with freelance Production Managers, and Technical Directors one in the Fall, one in the Spring
Serves as Production Electrician for Playwrights Horizons Theater School+rsquo;s 2 Mainstage Productions
Serve as the Production Electrician for Playwrights Uptown Productions including managing load in schedules, budgets, staffing, bidding out design to shops, checking design for feasibility and managing show needs throughout the run
Serve as technical liaison with theater rental clients
Review and Approve technical production requests for school and rental clients.
Oversee load in, technical rehearsals, and strike for both PHTS student productions and PHTS Mainstage production
Approve and implement classroom production equipment set-up and strike requests
In collaboration with the Production Supervisor serve as a liaison with NYU+rsquo;s production department
Hire, interview and supervise production staff for PHTS student productions and rentals
Manage production and labor budgets
Oversee inventory and maintenance of all theatrical equipment and supplies Downtown, and the lighting equipment + supplies Uptown
Create and maintain technical documentation and inventories for both venues
Set prices for rental technical packages in collaboration with the Administrative Director
Manage the maintenance and repair of the Downtown technical equipment for all performance spaces and studios
Work collaboratively with Production Supervisor and Manager of Student Productions on PHTS student productions, including the Mainstage
Work collaboratively with Playwrights Horizons Theater+rsquo;s Production Manager
Work collaboratively with PH Downtown Facilities Coordinator
Work collaboratively with the PH Downtown Administrative Director
Experience Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years of practical experience working in technical theater
A thorough knowledge of materials, tools, and theatrical equipment
Broad understanding in all aspects of technical theater including lighting, sound, projections, and carpentry
Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform manual labor as needed
Ability to read and produce technical drawings in VectorWorks
High professional standards with acute attention to details
Night and weekend hours required
Proficient using computers and apps
Highly motivated self starter
Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
Ability to interact with diverse populations, including undergraduate aged students and a wide variety of rental clients
Criminal Background Check will be required
Compensation
Playwrights Horizons offers a comprehensive benefits package including 10 days (two weeks) of vacation, four personal days, and 10 sick days. Salary: $66,300
