Founded by Alice Sheppard in 2016, KL works in the disciplines of art, technology, design, and dance. KL creates, performs, and teaches at the nexus of access, queerness, disability, dance, and race.

Properties Fabricator + Manager
KL seeks an experienced Properties Fabricator + Manager to provide fabrication and maintenance services for the premiere of Kinetic Light+rsquo;s new work, The Next TiMes. This is an independent contractor position starting July 21 through October 31, 2025, for a performance taking place from October 9-11, 2025 at New York Live Arts. Compensation is $25 - $30 hourly (commensurate with experience).
Key Responsibilities
The contractor will provide fabrication and maintenance services for selected props and scenic elements for the production, including audience-deployed elements. The contractor will collaborate with the Company designer, Production Manager/Technical Director, and Artistic Director, coordinating with other design, administrative and production personnel as needed.
Properties Fabrication and Management
● Work from provided design specifications from company designer to fabricate and
maintain props, headpieces, and scenic elements
● Coordinate with production + design teams on prop + scenic deployment and in-show
management
● Create solutions for safe packing and transportation of company props and scenic
elements
● Ensure that all props and scenic elements are ready and available for rehearsal and
performance
● Enter all props and scenic elements into company inventory system
Health + Safety
● Maintain a safe working environment by conforming to all established safety policies and
procedures, including but not limited to government, city, venue, and Kinetic Light+rsquo;s
anti-COVID-19 safety protocols which include masking and testing.
● Adhere to and promotes all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the shows;
participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure
training.
● Participate in KL+rsquo;s access protocols within production work, for venue operations, and
among crew and team, in collaboration with KL+rsquo;s Access Manager and Culture Steward.
General Logistics
● Participate in company production meetings as requested
● Respond in a timely matter to correspondence related to the production
● Use company designated programs for task tracking and administrative elements
● Maintain up to date and detailed records of all approved expenses related to props +
scenic elements including but not limited to receipts and time tracking in accordance with
company policies.
Requirements:
● Flexible and creative thinking about deployment of materials
● Familiarity with basic production equipment
● Skills to perform repetitive detail-oriented work with precision
● Knowledge of relevant theater + materials safety protocols
● Skills to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and manage multiple
relationships with crew, venue staff, administrative staff, and artists
● Work evenings and weekends
● COVID Vaccination
Preferred Qualifications:
● 3 years+rsquo; experience as a Properties Manager, Fabricator, or Designer
● Deep commitment to disability justice, access and equity as core values
● Skills to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
Location
KL is a NYC-based organization with a hybrid/remote working structure. Candidates must
already reside within same-day commuting distance of NYC in one of the following states: New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania. In-person rehearsals/tech will occur at KL+rsquo;s studio located inDumbo, Brooklyn and at the show venue in Manhattan, NY.
