Kinetic Light is seeking a Costume Stitcher for its upcoming production of The Next TiMes, premiering at New York Live Arts on October 9-11, 2025.

ABOUT KINETIC LIGHT
Kinetic Light (KL) is a disability arts organization that affirms and advances the disability arts
movement. Founded by Alice Sheppard in 2016, KL works in the disciplines of art, technology,
design, and dance. KL creates, performs, and teaches at the nexus of access, queerness,
disability, dance, and race.

ABOUT The Next TiMes
The Next TiMes is a multi-media, immersive work that can be experienced in light, sound, movement, text, and vibration (haptics). TiMes exemplifies Kinetic Light+rsquo;s core belief that access is art.

Costume Stitcher
KL seeks a qualified Costume Stitcher to provide construction and fabrication services for the premiere of Kinetic Light+rsquo;s new work, The Next TiMes. This is an independent contractor position starting ASAP through October 31, 2025, for a performance taking place from October 9-11, 2025 at New York Live Arts. Compensation is $25 hourly.

Key Responsibilities
The contractor will provide construction and fabrication services for costume elements for the
production, working in collaboration with the Costume Designer. The contractor will coordinate
with the Production Manager/Technical Director, Artistic Director, and Company Designer, as
well as with other design, administrative, and production personnel as needed.

Costume Support for The Next TiMes
In collaboration with the Costume Designer and production staff:
● Assist with costume construction and fabrication
● Conduct fittings as needed
● Alter and repair costumes during rehearsal and production
● Assist with wardrobe during production, including dressing and laundry

Requirements:
● Precise hand sewing skills
● Machine + Serger skills; machines provided
● Clear understanding of the stresses dancers place on costumes
● Work evenings and weekends
● COVID Vaccination

Health + Safety
● Maintain a safe working environment by conforming to all established safety policies and
procedures, including but not limited to government, city, venue, and Kinetic Light+rsquo;s
anti-COVID-19 safety protocols which include masking and testing
● Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of any equipment or machinery
● Participate in KL+rsquo;s access protocols within production work, for venue operations, and
among crew and team, in collaboration with KL+rsquo;s Access Manager and Culture Steward

General Logistics
● Participate in company production meetings if requested
● Respond in a timely matter to correspondence related to the production

Preferred Qualifications:
● 2-3 years+rsquo; experience as a Costumer, Stitcher, or Costume Assistant with dance
costuming experience
● Deep commitment to disability justice, access and equity as core values
● Skills to work independently and in a fast-paced environment

Location:
KL is a NYC-based organization with a hybrid/remote working structure. Candidates must
already reside within same-day commuting distance of NYC in one of the following states: New
Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania. In-person rehearsals/tech will occur at KL+rsquo;s studio located in
Dumbo, Brooklyn and at the show venue in Manhattan, NY.
