Kinetic Light is seeking a Production Manager/Technical Director for its upcoming production of The Next TiMes, premiering at New York Live Arts on October 9-11, 2025.

Founded by Alice Sheppard in 2016, KL works in the disciplines of art, technology,design, and dance. KL creates, performs, and teaches at the nexus of access, queerness, disability, dance, and race.

Production Manager/Technical Director
KL seeks an experienced Production Manager/Technical Director to oversee and realize the premiere of Kinetic Light+rsquo;s new work, The Next TiMes. This is a full-time temporary position starting ASAP through October 31, 2025, for a performance taking place from October 9-11, 2025 at New York Live Arts. Compensation is $40-$50 hourly (commensurate with experience); $2,000/weekly flat rate while on tour.
Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the Artistic Director/Choreographer, Managing Director and Designers, the
Production Manager/Technical Director is responsible for enabling and realizing the premiere of
Kinetic Light+rsquo;s new work, The Next TiMes.
Production + Rehearsal Oversight
● Create and maintain the production schedule including, residencies, rehearsals, build,
tech, performances, and load out.
● Organize and lead production meetings with venues, KL administrative staff, and other
external collaborators.
● Organize and maintain digital workspace utilizing the Google calendar, Slack, Asana,
and other digital technology tools as needed.
● Collaborate with KL administrative team in the advancement of all production related
duties.
Crew + Technical Management
● Oversee and manages KL+rsquo;s technical studio, the IMAX located in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
● Oversee road + local crew from load-in through load-out. This is a managerial and
physical requirement and that includes loading + unloading trucks, laying out the stage,
setting up equipment, and assisting with rigging, audio, video and lighting setup.
● Create storage, truck packing and loading unloading plans.
● Create systems for and manage company production equipment and assets, including
but not limited to: purchasing storage, disposition, transportation, inventory, inspection
records, and maintenance.
Health + Safety
● Maintain a safe working environment by conforming to all established safety policies and
procedures, including but not limited to government, city, venue, and Kinetic Light+rsquo;s
anti-COVID-19 safety protocols which include masking and testing.
● Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the shows;
participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure
training.
● Ensure execution of KL+rsquo;s access protocols within production work, for venue operations,
and among crew and team, in collaboration with KL+rsquo;s Access Manager and Culture
Steward.
Finance + Hiring
● Manage Production budget and expenses
● Maintain up to date and detailed records of all budgetary paperwork including but not
limited to receipts and time tracking in accordance with company policies.
● Responsible for all pre-production elements of each show, such as but not limited to
scheduling, advancing the venue, creating the technical rider, booking labor, renting
equipment, setting call times, arranging truck arrival times, etc.
● Identify, hire, and onboard crew members and technical personnel as needed, including
contract development
● Manage and oversee all vendor and venue contracts and ensure compliance with KL
tech riders.
● Oversee purchasing and/or rentals of all materials and/or equipment.
Requirements:
● Knowledge of entertainment lighting systems, audio, video, staging, rigging, fabrication,
and electrical power distribution, and all aspects of theater production
● Skills to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and schematics.
● Skills to communicate effectively orally and in written form and manage multiple
relationships with crew, venue staff, administrative staff, and artists.
● Skills to work with digital technology tools including Google Apps, Slack, Microsoft Office
Suite, VectorWorks, QLab, etc.
● Sills to prioritize and manage time-sensitive information and multiple work streams
● Punctuality, professionalism, and a positive, collaborative attitude when working with
clients and co-workers
● Skills to sit or stand for long hours and engage in moderate pushing, pulling, lifting,
climbing.
● Skills to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
● Skills to develop, interpret, and clearly communicate legal (vendor contracting), financial,
and operational, and technical materials
● Strategic thinking, with demonstrated success navigating complex systems
● Work evenings and weekends.
● Have a valid and clean Driver+rsquo;s License, with appropriate insurance.
● Must be able to travel internationally.
● COVID Vaccination
Preferred Qualifications:
● 5 years+rsquo; experience as a Production Stage Manager or as a Production Manager for a
touring dance company.
● Deep commitment to disability justice, access and equity as core organizational values.
● Specialization in one or two production disciplines, while maintaining a thorough working
knowledge of audio, video, lighting, fabrication, decor and scenic elements. Experience
with aerial performance and rigging is desirable.
Location:
KL is a NYC-based organization with a hybrid/remote working structure. Candidates must
already reside within same-day commuting distance of NYC in one of the following states: New
Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania. Candidates must be willing to travel for August residency to
Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Otherwise, in-person rehearsals/tech will occur
at KL+rsquo;s studio located in Dumbo, Brooklyn and at and at the show venue in Manhattan, NY.
