SUMMARY

The Staff Electricians report to the Lighting Supervisor and are responsible for the installation and maintenance of lighting equipment and are responsible for running electrical and lighting aspects of productions on both the Wilson and Fielding stages. Also responsible for assisting Lighting Supervisor with light admin duties and maintain Geva+rsquo;s core values of artist courage, sustainability, excellence, boundless hospitality, empathy, and anti-racism and inclusion.

DUTIES + RESPONSIBILTY

Lighting Preparation, Install + Maintenance

With Lighting Supervisor and other light department staff, work with and occasionally lead and train over hire crews in the implementation of lighting designs in all of Geva+rsquo;s performance spaces.
Work closely with Light Supervisor in the pre-hang planning for upcoming productions and execution of the department+rsquo;s work, and in developing the best departmental practices for the future (i.e. assemble color and fixture templates, building and/or wire practical lighting effects, assist with circuit mapping and rigging plans, etc.)
With other Electrics staff, participate in the physical execution of the light plot to actualize the lighting design (i.e. hang fixtures, ensure fixtures are correctly and safely hung and circuited, troubleshoot electrical problems as they arise during load-in, solve problems in concert with other departments during load-in, etc.)
Execute production notes through the tech process to ensure production quality (i.e. execute designer+rsquo;s notes through tech process, provide information at the end of each work call to ensure the accuracy of show paperwork, etc.)
With Lighting Supervisor, maintain a clean, safe, positive work environment.

Show Run, Operation + Strike

Act as primary light board operator for specific productions with opportunities to act as light board programmer.
Act as a backup light board operator or follow spot operator when necessary, learning operating procedures for each production.
Maintain fixtures and equipment to ensure everything is in good working order.
Participate in the strike as directed by Lighting Supervisor.
Repair equipment as needed, maintain gel and template inventories and tool inventory.
Provide lighting support and operate light board for Special Events or other onstage activities as needed.

Administration

Actively participate in future initiatives relating to best theatre practice and initiatives.
Ensure all pertinent information regarding productions and lighting department operations is available to all relevant personnel and updated in all file sharing and storage locations as required.
Attend company wide trainings and all staff meetings as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Knowledge of basic theatrical directions and terms
Knowledge of basic rigging in order to rig safely
Knowledge of basic theatrical lighting design paperwork and practices
Knowledge of theatrical lighting fixtures, dimming and control systems
Knowledge of safe work practices to reduce the risk of injury.
Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking about challenges.
Possessing a positive attitude, initiative, being flexible, working well as a team member, and having a high attention to detail.
Experience, ability and commitment to working with diverse groups in terms of gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigration status.

Desired

Experience/competence with ETC Eos programming a plus
Skill in determining and troubleshooting electrical problems
Skill in hanging, Circuiting and focusing theatrical lighting
Ability to conceptualize and maintain a lighting design

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, crouch, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, have full range of neck motion, see near and far with good depth perception, and work indoors.
Ability to comfortably work at heights of over 30+rsquo;.
Ability to manipulate and work on step ladders and extension ladders at varying heights.
