SUMMARY
Geva Theatre, a LORT B regional theatre in the heart of Rochester, New York, seeks an experienced and Audio Engineer to join its production team.
The Audio Engineers report to the Sound Supervisor and are responsible for the installation and maintenance of sound equipment and running audio aspects of productions on both the Wilson and Fielding stages. Also responsible for assisting Sound Supervisor with light admin duties and maintain Geva+rsquo;s core values of artist courage, sustainability, excellence, boundless hospitality, empathy, and anti-racism and inclusion.
Please note: the start date for this job is September 23rd, though interviews will begin in late-July.
DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITY
Show Run, Sound Install/Checking + Maintenance
Act as live A1 (Front of House Engineer) or A2 (Backstage Engineer) on both the Wilson and Fielding stages as necessary with other sound staff.
Become familiar with script, design concepts, ands system drawings in order to efficiently and effectively address questions from the design, production, and facilities staff.
Maintain the integrity of the sound design throughout the run of a production.
Maintain the integrity of the production communications stem, both wired infrastructure and wireless.
Be in attendance for all sound load-in, orchestra rehearsals, quiet time, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, understudy rehearsals, put-in rehearsals, previews, and performances as required.
Read rehearsal reports, production reports, rehearsal schedules, and productions calendars to address and troubleshoot any sound-related technical notes or problems that come up.
Install and maintain simple closed circuit video systems as needed for productions.
Program/modify the current setup of the audio console.
Provide sound support and operate sound console for Special Events or other onstage activities as needed.
Administration
Work collaboratively with other departments to determine and implement archival systems about each production for future reference.
Maintain files on shows.
Actively participate in future initiatives relating to best theatre practice and initiatives.
Ensure all pertinent information regarding productions and sound department operations is available to all relevant personnel and updated in all file sharing and storage locations as required.
Attend company wide trainings and all staff meetings as necessary.
TRAITS IN A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
Required
Demonstrated experience as a live Audio Mixer/Board Operator for similarly sized venues.
Demonstrated experience working on plays and musicals, follow stage management cues, and ability to mix line by line for live dialogue.
Ability to work 40-hour weeks, with many evenings and weekends as show schedules need.
Knowledge of and ability to use computer and other technical resources to effectively accomplish work, including word processing and database preparation for information review, preparation, organization, and communication.
Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking about challenges.
Possessing a positive attitude, initiative, being flexible, working well as a team member, and having a high attention to detail.
Experience, ability and commitment to working with diverse groups in terms of gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigration status.
Desired
Working knowledge of Qlab and Mac OS.
Ability to program and operate a Yamaha CL Console.
Skill in repair and maintenance of standard audio/video equipment.
Knowledge or ability to learn systems we use: Wireless Workbench, WatchOut, Isadora, Dante Certification, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, crouch, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, have full range of neck motion, see near and far with good depth perception, and work indoors.
