$35+ndash;$42 per hour, commensurate with experien per week
We are searching for our next Head Carpenter. The Head Carpenter is a senior-level position at TTS Studios, overseeing the construction of scenic elements, managing a team of carpenters, ensuring projects are completed on time and to design specifications, while adhering to safety protocols and maintaining the overall efficiency of the carpentry shop, all while collaborating closely with other departments.
Hours: Monday through Friday onsite, 8:00am to 4:30pm; 40 hours of work expected per week
Schedule: 40 hours/week minimum with consistent M+ndash;F hours (8:00am+ndash;4:30pm). Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required+mdash;paid at time and a half.
Duties:
Collaborate closely with the Technical Designers, Project Managers, and other department heads to ensure smooth execution of projects.
Maintain the carpentry shop, organizing tools, materials, and storage areas, ensuring proper upkeep of equipment.
Technical Drawing Interpretation: Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
Lead the construction of complex scenic pieces, including cutting, shaping, assembling, and finishing materials.
Inspect all completed scenic elements for accuracy, quality, and adherence to design standards.
Supervise and delegate tasks to a crew of scenic carpenters, ensuring efficient workflow and quality craftsmanship.
Effectively manage and prioritize tasks by overseeing the team's workflow, ensuring that each carpenter remains on track, while also maintaining focus on personal fabrication duties to meet project deadlines.
Requirements:
Expert Carpentry Skills: Extensive knowledge and safe operation of woodworking techniques, power tools, and hand tools.
Leadership Abilities: Proven experience managing and motivating a team of carpenters.
Adaptability to work in various departments depending on project needs
Problem-Solving: Capability to identify and resolve construction challenges effectively and collaboratively.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy objects, work at heights, and maintain a sometimes physically demanding schedule.
Overtime and some weekend work may be required to meet deadlines.
Other materials: Knowledge of plastic, foam, and rigging materials. Familiarity with steel and aluminum
Preferred:
Theatrical touring experience
Drafting experience
Experience using Project Management software (Asana)
Experience using Microsoft Office
