East Stroudsburg University+rsquo;s Theatre Department is looking for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Music, Associate Director of Bands. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU+rsquo;s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to professional markets, careers, and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country+rsquo;s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
The ESU Theatre Department is located in the Fine and Performing Arts building on campus. Our facilities feature multiple performance and rehearsal spaces, including a recital hall, two theatres, a dance studio, and classroom spaces. We are collaborative faculty that enjoys working closely together both in the classroom and in performances. ESU+rsquo;s Theatre, Music, and Dance Department is committed to creating and developing a diverse, engaged, artistically well-balanced body of future music performers and lovers. The department currently offers a minor in Music.
The department is looking to welcome an Associate Instrumental Ensemble Director with a specialty in percussion, particularly within the marching arts. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the ESU Band and Music programs, including assisting with the ESU Warrior Marching Band, co-directing the ESU University Concert Band and/or ESU Jazz Big Band, and developing a Percussion Ensemble for Spring Semesters. Interest in developing a symphonic orchestral program in lieu of jazz will be considered. This individual should be dedicated to teaching, in both traditional classroom settings and in ensemble settings.
Essential Responsibilities:
Teaching, advising, and supervising a vibrant community of diverse students.
Ability to direct/collaboratively direct musical ensembles, particularly percussion focused ensembles.
Ability to teach general music courses in fundamental music theory, history of popular music, and/or introduction to music.
Assisting in student recruitment.
Engaging the local music education community through outreach in PMEA, NJMEA, and other professional organizations.
Serving on departmental, college, and university committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in music (PhD or DMA) from a college or university of recognized standing. ABDs will be considered, but all requirements for doctoral degree must be completed by August 2025 other than dissertation.
Demonstrated success in teaching, conducting, and leadership of marching and concert bands at the collegiate and/or high school level.
Commitment to undergraduate education and developing curricula that can meet student needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated success in recruitment and development of a collegiate or high school band program.
Ability to write for percussion in marching/indoor percussion settings.
Experience with Sound Design/Live Audio, including use of digital mixing consoles, Main Stage, and sound reinforcement for front ensemble, vocals, guitars, and synthesizers.
