The DFPA is comprised of the disciplines of Dance, Fine Arts, Music and Theatre; The Sound, Lighting and Video Supervisor (SLVS), reports to the Managing Director and the Chairperson of the Department and is in close collaboration and partnership with the resident faculty lighting designer. The SLVS is responsible for organizing and overseeing the safe and efficient implementation of all performance lighting, electrical effects, sound equipment, and projections for the department+rsquo;s ambitious annual public programming in addition to maintain the inventories and equipment related to sound, lighting and projections. This includes serving as Head Electrician on all theatre and dance productions; and overseeing the implementation of sound, lighting and recording needs of music concerts and events. Annually the DFPA produces four large mainstage productions (including one dance concert); 3-4 productions in our studio space, and 4-6 smaller theatre and dance projects with limited technical requirements. The LSS is the resident expert on audio and lighting controls, recording equipment and communication systems (clear-com, intercom) and provides training and operational support for activities that require those systems to members of the department and the university. In collaboration with theatre faculty, the SLVS teaches 1-2 sections of Theatre Practicum: Electrics per semester, the introductory electrics stagecraft course to all theatre and dance majors. This is a practical course that teaches both basics in theatrical lighting but also leads the students in the course to provide the labor support to hang and focus the semester+rsquo;s productions. The SLVS will partner with design faculty to provide mentorship for electricians, sound, lighting and projections designers. Additionally, the SLVS assists the faculty in courses and academic activities that result in the use of the sound, lighting and projections systems.
