Looking for a skilled individual with leadership experience and that can take on coordinating costume builds from patterning through overseeing construction in a shop of 3-4 stitchers, bolstering the skills of the shop, and cultivating a positive working environment.
Job description:
-Creates patterns and plans construction of garments based on Designer's renderings/research
-Cuts patterns out of the fabric or assigns cutting responsibilities
-Instructs technicians in the building of costume items and crafts
-Works in conjunction with costume designer and director to trouble shoot build problems and other technical requirements.
-Attends fittings and preps corrections and alterations to costumes
-Creates work lists to help track costume progress
-Directly supervises the stitchers to assess and assign projects.
-May attend dress rehearsals as needed.
-Responsible for maintaining the level of costume production to meet the theatre's standards
-Performing other duties assigned by the Costume Director
Experience:
-BA or BFA in Theatre Design/Technology with Costume Emphasis or Fashion Design/Construction Preferred: MFA in Costume Design/Technology.
-5 years of experience as a draper and sewing costumes for professional theatre, or in garments construction.
-Working knowledge of the theatrical industry
-Strong organizational skills, leadership skills, and communication skills
-Knowledge of costume construction methods, alteration methods, patterning, draping, costume history and textiles.
