Job Title: Director of Sound

Overview
The historic Athens Theatre, a premier destination for live entertainment in Central Florida, seeks an experienced and collaborative Director of Sound. This full-time leadership role is both hands-on and strategic, responsible for delivering exceptional audio quality across a wide range of programming, including theatrical productions, concerts, and rental events. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong communication and problem-solving skills to help shape extraordinary audience experiences.

Key Responsibilities
+bull; Design, implement, and operate sound systems for theatrical productions, concerts, and events
+bull; Operate the sound system console during all performances and events
+bull; Create sound designs, including QLab programming and cue editing for productions
+bull; Set up and manage live band configurations for musicals and special events
+bull; Maintain and repair all audio equipment and systems
+bull; Collaborate with creative teams and clients to achieve artistic and technical goals
+bull; Advance and manage audio logistics for incoming productions and rentals
+bull; Maintain inventory of all sound equipment and ensure it is restored post-rental and post-live theatrical productions
+bull; Ensure safety compliance and uphold venue technical standards
+bull; Coordinate with the Lighting Director/Assistant Technical Director and external technicians for efficient production execution
+bull; Support benefit productions, educational programs, and other in-house events as needed

Qualifications
+bull; Proficiency with digital and analog mixing consoles (especially Allen + Heath SQ series)
+bull; Experience with wireless microphone systems, QLab (v5 preferred), playback systems, and audio networking
+bull; Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment effectively
+bull; Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
+bull; Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
+bull; Passion for using sound to create meaningful live experiences

Preferred Qualifications
+bull; 4+ years of live sound experience in theatre, concerts, or events+mdash;or a degree focused in Sound Engineering or Theatrical Production
+bull; Familiarity with ADA compliance and assistive listening systems

Compensation
+bull; $40,000 annually (pre-tax); increases to $42,000 after 90-day trial period

+bull; We are seeking to fill the Director of Sound position as soon as a qualified candidate becomes available. Our goal is for the selected individual to train under the current Director, whose tenure concludes on June 30.
