ABOUT INDIANA REPERTORY THEATRE
The Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) was founded in 1972 and is the only theatre in Indiana to belong to the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). Currently, the IRT produces six productions annually in two stages (the OneAmerica Mainstage, and the Janet Allen Stage) for diverse audiences. The repertoire includes work varying from world premieres to classics. The IRT serves audiences of multiple generations including students from early elementary through twelfth grade. With a significant endowment, the IRT is financially stable and looks forward to many more years of creating art for the Indianapolis community. Following many decades of diverse programming, the IRT leadership, in the past four years, has focused on further diversifying its staff and board, including ongoing anti-racist training for all. POSITION PURPOSE

As Lead Carpenter, you are the floor supervisor of all the staff carpenters and over-hire personnel during construction, load-ins and strikes.

POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the smooth operation of the shop and provide guidance and leadership as needed.
- Working with the TD, facilitate efficient work flow through the shop.
- Along with the TD, assist with the on-boarding of new Shop Staff and Overhire and be a resource for them on Shop policies, methods and construction standards.
- Supervise maintenance, organization, safety, and cleanliness of the Scene Shop, Paint Shop, and performance spaces.
- Facilitate Shop operations; call all breaks as appropriate and determine appropriate amount of clean up time at the end of each day and week
- This includes periodic tool and supply inventories and notifying the TD when tools and supplies need re-ordering/repair.
- Organize and delegate regular maintenance tasks to keep the Shop and other spaces in good working order.
- Build scenery for all IRT productions including special projects undertaken by the IRT.
- Perform such tasks, services, duties, and responsibilities in accordance with IRT policies, rules, regulations, and instructions now in force, or which may be adopted from time to time, during Employee+rsquo;s employment at the IRT.

OTHER FUNCTIONS
+bull; Other duties as determined by Technical Director and Production Manager.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- 3-5 years of experience with scenery construction techniques and wood working tools.
- 3-5 years of experience with theatrical rigging and best practices for rigging safety
- 3-5 years of Experience with metal working tools including welders
- Experience with safe operation of a shared Scene Shop space and Performance spaces.
- Experience supervising multiple crews working on different projects at the same time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

+bull; Proficiency operating a variety of metalworking tools including welders.
+bull; Extensive understanding of theatrical standards of engineering and best practices in scenery construction and theatrical rigging.
- Ability to read and understand Designer and Construction Drawings
- Ability to manage staff and communicate instructions to them
- Ability to work in a team and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
- COVID-19 vaccination, at least one booster, and proof of vaccination are required for employment at the IRT.

- This position must be comfortable working in confined spaces
- This Position must be comfortable working at heights on Catwalks and in Fall Arrest Harness.
