SCENIC CARPENTER + STAGEHAND
Seasonal, Full-Time Non-Exempt
Reports to: Technical Director + Production Stage Manager
Start Date: May 26, 2025 (dates subject to slight changes)
End Date: August 24, 2025
Housing: Shared bedroom, shared kitchen, and bath in company housing
Compensation: $375 per week + overtime, housing included
Hiring Schedule: Interviews will begin on or about February 3, 2025
Overview:

Weston Theater Company is located in rural southern Vermont. Having an appreciation for nature and a quiet small-town vibe for the summer is essential. What we lack in population density, public transportation, and urban conveniences is offset by the beauty of 400,000 acres of national forests, lakes, quintessential general stores, and caring community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Function as run crew for Walker Farm Musical Production;
Assist scenic + props staff with proper construction, fabrication, installation, rigging, and strike of scenic and prop elements for all scheduled productions;
Assist with in-house scenic build of outdoor touring Young Company production;
Assist with the fabrication, sourcing, and modification of props, furniture, and set dressing for all productions;
Provide daily maintenance and inspection of tools for safe operation at all times;
Assist in production changeovers;
Execute show cues and scene shift changes as taught;
Work with relative department heads to provide daily maintenance and inspection of sets, props, and other show related materials;
Participate in pre-show and post-show related work calls;
Execute safety protocols by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment while working in the shop, during load-ins, techs, and changeovers;
When necessary, assist with paint calls managed by Scenic Charge.
Assist other production departments as necessary including production management;
Assist in loading, unloading, securing, and driving items in rented box truck;
Attend Young Professional career development meetings;
Assist in the upkeep, cleanup, and maintenance of work areas, inventories, and equipment;
Provide support for special events.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated interest in theatrical productions;
Proven interest and skills in standard props construction techniques and practices including basic carpentry, upholstery, scenic art, paper and soft goods construction, machine/hand sewing;
Knowledge of shop equipment maintenance and usage;
Proficiency in wood and metal scenic construction and fabrication techniques;
Proficient inter-personal, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills;
Willingness to learn and adhere to industry and OSHA safety practices;
Excellent inter-personal, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills;
Demonstrated knowledge of industry and OSHA standard safety practices;
Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. with assistance;
Ability to manage multiple, overlapping productions, projects, and personalities with grace;
Prior experience safely loading, unloading a 24-foot truck preferred;
Ability to thrive in rural area with limited cell phone service;
Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
