DECK CARPENTER
The Deck Carpenter works as a member of the Run Crew and works closely with the Production Stage Manager, Props Designer, and other members of the Production Staff to build, load-in, run, and strike all mainstage productions in our Theater Tent. HVS is located in Garrison, NY, and operates under a unique open-air Theater Tent; more information is available at hvshakespeare.org. This position reports to the Director of Production.
Responsibilities include:
+middot; Work with the props designer to maintain scenic and prop elements for all productions.
+middot; Work under the supervision of the Facilities Manager to load-in and strike the Theater Tent.
+middot; Responsible for the safety, upkeep, and operations of all HVS workspaces and tools under the supervision of the Director of Production and Facilities Manager.
+middot; Work with the Lighting Supervisor, Sound Supervisor, and Facilities Manager to oversee and execute the hang and installation of the stage grid and related elements.
+middot; Member of the stage crew; the Deck Carpenter will be responsible for running the deck for all mainstage shows under the supervision of the Production Stage Manager.
+middot; Responsible for daily care and maintenance of the performance space, including the stage area.
+middot; Work closely with other artists to build a safe, respectful, and anti-rasict backstage environment; Display and promote multi-cultural competency and sensitivity.

Qualifications:
+middot; Demonstrated skills of theatrical carpentry, knot-tying, soft goods, scenic props, and basic scenic paints.
+middot; Complete understanding of backstage etiquette. A good working knowledge of technical theatre practices.
+middot; Valid Driver+rsquo;s license and clean DMV record.
+middot; This position is physical in nature and required to work outdoors. The ability to climb ladders, lifts, and reach above head. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 70 pounds and work outside, exposed to the elements.

This seasonal position is paid $19 per hour / $760 per week from May 19 through September 15, 2025.
