The five show summer stock season requires candidates to be able to handle painting during quick scenic builds and changeovers. An ideal candidate is energetic and motivated to manage the Peninsula Players Theatre's high production values and work closely with the Technical Director, other shop heads, and scene shop staff. The Scenic Charge Artist is responsible for the on-time planning and execution of designed paint treatments of scenery and sometimes props. This is a newer position to Peninsula Players Theatre and requires a candidate with flexibility and willingness to adjust the role as needed.

Job responsibilities:
-Coordinate and execute the painting of the sets for the season
-Oversee purchase of all paints and paint supplies and remain within budget as directed by Production Manager
-Attend production meetings and other meetings as scheduled
-Oversee upkeep and general maintenance of all paint work areas
-Establish a dialogue with designers to provide samples and updates, and ask questions as needed
-Work with the TD (and other departments) to create build/paints calendar
-Take care of paint notes from performance reports
-Work with props department and scenic designer on any paint treatment necessary for props/furniture (as needed)
-Assist scenic department with strike and demo of sets (as needed)
-Willingly assist other departments as needed including projects related to the well being and maintenance of our property
-Evening show duties are assigned as each show demands. These include helping in our patron parking lots, ushering, bartending, concessions, etc.

Skills:
-Understanding of theatrical practices
-Ability to collaborate with designers
-Team-oriented attitude
-Excellent verbal and written communication
-Proficient in color mixing (Rosco Off Broadway or other comparable brands)
-Knowledge of faux finish techniques including but not limited to wood graining and marbling
-Knowledge of treatments for various materials (wood, foam, steel etc.)
-Knowledge of patching and finishing techniques to prep surfaces for paint
-Experience managing a budget and calculating square footage when determining needed materials
-Proficient in reading scaled drawings
-Proficient in measuring and layout techniques and tools
-Experience leading/teaching others in paint techniques
-Ability to be flexible with shifted work schedules or overnights
-Has the ability to lift 75 lbs
-Is comfortable working at heights from Genie lifts and ladders
-Is comfortable working outside in various weather conditions and planning for schedule adjustments based on weather
-Bachelor's degree in theatre/related field or commensurate experience preferred
-5+ years experience working in scenic art/paints preferred

Staff arrival date on campus is May 17th, 2026 with the first day of work commencing on May 18th 2026.
Departure date is on September 11th 2026, which is a day after the fifth show opens. (The final production closes on October 18th, 2026 and the property is closed down on October 21st, 2026.)

The rate for this position is $775 per week. Travel stipend provided. All positions are housed on property, at no cost. Meals are provided at a cost of $95/week.
