The Old Globe seeks a qualified Head Electrician for its outdoor theatre, the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. This seasonal position reports to the Lighting Director and is responsible for overseeing and executing the build, installation, operation, and strike of lighting equipment for the Festival theatre. Typical season is April through October. The Head Electrician is expected to manage equipment and supply needs for their space as well as assist the lighting department in maintaining accurate theatre and show documentation.
Ideal applicants should have experience working outdoors, supervising crews, rigging and climbing, working at heights, resourceful at problem solving, and maintaining a safe working environment. The Head Electrician is expected to work independently and as a collaborator with other departments. The Head Electrician should be able to communicate effectively with production and artistic staff.
Required skills include programming ETC Eos family consoles; proficiency in Lightwright; lighting maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and ability to read a light plot. The Head Electrician should have knowledge of low voltage wiring; DMX protocols; Vectorworks; computer networking; rigging and fall protection safety. This position should be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and work at heights up to 45 feet.
The Head Electrician must be present whenever the theatre's lighting system is in use. A flexible schedule including nights and weekends is required. Must be able to pass applicable background check. This is a seasonal, IATSE Local 122 Union position available early April. If the selected candidate is not a member of the Union, they will be required to join. Hourly rate subject to the agreement between Local 122 and the Old Globe at the conclusion of ongoing negotiations, current range $28.14-30.22 per hour; benefits include IATSE pension and Union Health plans.
