General Summary:
Asolo Rep (LORT B) Florida's premier professional theatre and one of the most important cultural forces in the Southeastern US is seeking to fill its Associate Technical Director Position. The Associate Technical Director is responsible for working with the Technical Director to facilitate the technical design, construction, load in, and strike of all Asolo Repertory Theatre productions, FSU Conservatory productions, and Outside contracts. Alongside the Technical Director, the Associate Technical Director will review and budget scenic designs, determine technical requirements, generate construction drawings, purchase and track materials, oversee construction, and lead load ins, strikes, and other crew calls as necessary. In addition to attending all production meetings and technical rehearsals, the Associate Technical Director will provide technical support to all Asolo productions and related departments.
Responsibilities
The Associate Technical Director works alongside the Technical Director to:
Oversee the construction, rigging, installation, and maintenance of theatrical scenery.
Generate working construction drawings using CAD Software.
Purchase and Inventory stock and specialty materials.
Track shop progress, show elements, and maintain production schedule.
Supervise full-time and overhire scene shop personnel, including carpenters, metal workers, scenic painters, properties artisans, and electricians.
Organize and schedule IATSE overhire labor for shop work, load ins, strikes, and other calls as necessary.
Produce budgets, timeline estimates, and bids for all Asolo Rep productions, FSU Conservatory shows, and Outside work.
Lead IATSE Crews to safely load in and strike scenery.
Maintain safe working conditions and train others in safety related matters.
Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment at the Scene Shop, Rehearsal Spaces, Asolo's Mainstage (The Mertz Theatre), and other facilities as necessary.
Other duties may arise through discussion and experience.
Required Qualifications
This position is hands-on and requires a range of theatre experience
Advanced knowledge of current theatrical construction techniques and best practices
Proficient in AutoCAD
Proficient in Microsoft office suit, Dropbox, and basic computer skills
Ability to manage shifting and competing priorities, exercise good judgement, and maintain a calm and positive attitude in stressful environments
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
Punctual, self-motivated, and detail oriented. Works effectively in both a team and self-directed situations
Comfortable working at heights from Genie lifts, ladders, and scaffolding
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
Valid U.S. Driver+rsquo;s License
Night and Weekend Hours required
Preferred Qualifications
Comfortable driving 18'; box truck or pickup with trailer attached
Forklift Certified or willing to become certified
OSHA 10 or 30 Certified or willing to become certified
Working knowledge of Creative Conners Equipment and software
