Compensation Rate: $16.50/hour

Position Summary
Barter Theatre seeks a Scenic Carpenter to be a part of our 2025 season. The Scenic Carpenter is responsible for the safe construction, installation, and removal of scenery as directed by the Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director, and Shop Foreman. This employee will work as part of a team of carpenters to develop and construct that scenery in an accurate manner in accordance with working drawings and designer plates.

Responsibilities
● Build scenery safely, efficiently, and accurately
● Rig scenery safely and efficiently
● Attend all strike and load-in calls
● Job will require heavy lifting (50+ lbs.), ladder and grid work, and possible long hours
● Ability to read and interpret working drawings
● Demonstrated knowledge of stage carpentry
● Demonstrated knowledge of the basic aspects of stage rigging
● Knowledge and proficiency of all common hand and power tools
● The ability to work both as part of a team and independently
● A self-motivator with the ability to motivate others
● Clear and concise communication
● Welding skills, metal fabrication, familiarity with AutoCad, and experience with CNC machines are a plus
● The ability, or willingness to learn, to drive large vehicles
Qualification + Experience
● BA or BFA with an emphasis in Theatre or Technical Production AND/OR a minimum of 2 years experience in scenic construction in a professional performing arts environment.
