Compensation Rate: $16.15/hour

Position Summary
Barter Theatre seeks an Assistant Scenic Artist to be a part of our 2025 season. The Assistant Scenic Artist is responsible for assisting the Charge Artist in completing the painting and finishing effects of scenery. The Assistant Scenic Artist assists the Charge Artist with painting and sculpting sets/scenes, as well as completing other duties as assigned by the Charge Artist or Technical Director.
Responsibilities
● Knowledge of all aspects of scenic painting and sculptural techniques
● Ability to work from designer paint elevations
● Ability to work with the Scenic Designer to accurately realize the vision and feel of the
production
● Ability to work in fast paced professional environment and complete tasks in a timely
manner
● Must attend all paint calls as assigned by the Charge Artist
● Must be able to work overnights during the weeks of load-in/techs, as well as on the
occasional weekend
● Must show up for paint calls on time and ready to work
● Need to have knowledge of proper brush and paint tool maintenance
● Strong self-motivation and attention to detail
● Job may require heavy lifting, ladder work, and long hours
● Additional duties may be assigned by the Charge Artist or Technical Director
Qualification + Experience
● BA or BFA in Theatre or Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting AND/OR a minimum of 2 years
professional experience.
