Pay

The VIVO Teaching Artist and Performer position is a ten-month contract (July 31 - June 7) of approximately 40 hrs per week and will fulfill duties in 3 major areas. Currently, we are open to hiring for 1-5 month contracts from January to June. We will also accept applicants for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Area 1 - Teaching - VIVO Teaching Artist and Performer will serve as classroom teacher for our theatre based dual language after school program. The program entails teaching young people from Kindergarten to 5th grade the fundamentals of theatre, music, and dance while offering a safe and stable environment for underserved students whose parents need support outside of school hours. The Teaching Artist will work closely with the VIVO Arts Engagement Managing Consultant to create lesson plans and programming for all age groups in both English and Spanish. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain teaching experience in a fast-paced education program. The hour or time requirement for this portion of the job is teaching every Mon-Fri from 3pm-5:30pm for the 2024-2025 school year.

Area 2 - Performing - The VIVO Teaching Artist and Performer will serve as a Principal Actor or Crew Member for the Spring 2025 Dual Language Production. This could be a performance or production/backstage role, depending on areas of skill and/or interest. This will be a fully realized production and all Summit County Elementary School and Middle School students will be bused to the theatre to see the production. There will also be several public performances on weekends that will be free of charge and open to the community so students can return to the theatre and bring their families.

Area 3 - Arts Administration or Production Support - The VIVO Teaching Artist and Performer will assist in Administrative duties for Theatre SilCo. These duties include office work (filing, data entry, copying, etc.), box office hours and Production support as needed (building sets, hanging lights, stocking costumes, etc.), support and planning of events such as opening night parties and other events.

Requirements

Fluent in both English and Spanish preferred
Enthusiasm for teaching dance, theater, and music
Dedication to children and young teens with diverse backgrounds and academic levels
Experience working with groups of children and/or teens in a school, camp or other setting preferred
Punctual and reliable
Performance experience preferred
BA or BFA in Theatre preferred
Drivers license preferred

In accordance with national standards and practices, all potential teaching artists are subject to a federal background check.

Salary - $600 per week + travel, housing, and health insurance provided
