The John W. Engeman Theater seeks knowledgeable and experienced wardrobe crew for the upcoming
production of Heartbreak Hotel (with the possibility of staying on for future Main Stage or Children's Theater productions)
The Wardrobe Crew Members are responsible for the care and maintenance of finished costumes as
used in the production. The Wardrobe Crew Members will provide hands-on assistance with costumes to
actors in their dressing rooms and/or backstage.
Wardrobe Crew Members may be required to act as
stitchers during tech or throughout the production as determined by the Wardrobe Supervisor.
Compensation for this position starts at $16.00/Hour.
Responsibilities:
- Review of costumes prior to each performance
- Assist with costumes load-in, strike, and dressing as assigned.
- Assist actors with dressing and quick changes.
- Assist actors with wig changes as necessary.
- Maintenance of show costumes including laundry and repair.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace.
- Perform pre-show setup and post-show clean up.
- Perform emergency costume repairs as necessary.
- Ensure proper placement of costume pieces prior to show.
- Attend dress rehearsals as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Wardrobe Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a wardrobe personnel preferred, but open to candidates new to the field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of/and experience in a variety of costume construction techniques,
including quick rigging.
- Working knowledge of hand and machine stitching techniques
- Ability to collaborate with the wardrobe team to efficiently complete assigned projects.
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Ability to manage working relationships with various personalities.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and highly collaborative work style
- Wig experience is a plus.
- MUST be local to NYC or Long Island
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to operate shop equipment including industrial and domestic sewing machines, steam irons,
and cutting tools.
- Ability to listen, take instruction, and to participate in a team to complete the assigned tasks.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Works well in a fast paced and high-pressure environment
