Position Summary
The Resident Sound Designer reports to the Director of Production. This individual will Design for 10-13 productions annually and coordinate all audio needs for the Gilliam and Smith stages in collaboration with Barter+rsquo;s Audio Visual Supervisor.
Responsibilities
Design and implement soundscapes for all Barter Theatre productions, including musicals and plays
Collaborate with directors, composers, and other production team members to develop sound concepts and effects that support storytelling
Oversee the setup, operation, and strike of sound systems for rehearsals and performances
Create and manage all show-related sound documentation, including cue sheets and system diagrams
Program QLab files for rehearsals and performances
Assist in maintaining and managing Barter Theatre+rsquo;s sound equipment inventory, ensuring all equipment is functional and up to date
Mix occasional live performances, including musicals and events, ensuring a balanced and high-quality auditory experience
Stay current with sound design trends, technologies, and industry standards
Coordinate with other production departments to ensure seamless integration of sound into productions
Develop and manage department budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources
Qualifications
Skills and Experience
Proficiency in DANTE networks
Familiarity with Allen and Heath DLive (C3500) audio consoles
Familiarity with Behringer X32 audio consoles
Bachelor+rsquo;s degree in Sound Design, Technical Theatre, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
A minimum of three years of professional experience in sound design for theatre
Proficiency in sound design software (e.g., QLab, Pro Tools) and audio equipment, including digital mixing consoles and wireless microphone systems
Strong understanding of live sound mixing, recording and system troubleshooting
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules
