Position Summary
The Resident Lighting Designer / Head Electrician is the manager for the lighting department and reports to the Director of Production. This individual will design lighting for 6-8 productions annually and coordinate all lighting and electrical needs and budgets for the 19 productions on the Gilliam and Smith stages while managing two stage electricians.
Responsibilities
Design lighting for 6-8 main season productions annually
Coordinate lighting needs and designers for Barter Player productions
Collaborate with directors, scenic designers, and other production team members
Prepare and provide lighting plots, schedules, and related documentation
Adhere to production timelines and budgetary constraints
Develop and manage department budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources
Oversee personnel management within the lighting department, including scheduling, training, and mentoring staff
Oversee the installation, maintenance, and operation of lighting and electrical systems for all productions and events
Supervise and lead the lighting crew during load-ins, focuses, technical rehearsals, and strikes
Collaborate with Lighting Designers to ensure the successful realization of lighting designs
Maintain the theatre+rsquo;s lighting inventory and equipment, ensuring all systems are in safe and working condition
Troubleshoot and repair lighting equipment as needed
Coordinate with other production departments to ensure smooth and efficient workflows
Manage lighting schedules and adhere to production deadlines
Stay informed on current industry practices and advancements in lighting technology
Skills and Experience
Bachelor+rsquo;s degree in Theatre, Technical Theatre, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
A minimum of three years of experience in lighting design, theatrical electrics, with leadership experience
Proficiency in ETC EOS lighting control systems, sACN control, ETC dimming systems, and electrical safety protocols
Proficiency with lighting software including Vectorworks and Lightwright
Familiarity with equipment maintenance for Incandescent, LED, and Moving Head lighting fixtures
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work at heights and lift up to 80 pounds
Experience with hemp style lineset rigging
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as production schedules require
