TITLE: Scenic Artist Overhire

CLASSIFICATION: Non - Exempt / Hourly Employee

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR(s): Shop Foreperson, Director of Production, Scenic Charge

Department: Scenic/ Paint

Standard Work Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Onsite hours to vary

Compensation: $30 - $35 per hour based on experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret renderings for all scenic elements and assess scenic needs for shop
- Create and document paint process for each project and prep and track product orders
and formulas
- Consult with the Director of Production to determine if the scenic elements as designed
can be realized with given staff levels and timelines
- Consult with Shop Foreman to ensure all workflow timelines are met on a per project
basis
- Supervise Paint Staff and assigned workers
- Monitor paint progress and inform the Director of Production and Shop Foreman of any
potential conflicts or issues
- Update project paperwork in process
- Appropriately prep scenic surfaces for durability and aesthetics, including but not limited
to filling holes, sanding, priming, and coating foam
- Create and apply a variety of three-dimensional textures, such as raised wood grains
- Authentically age and distress scenic pieces as necessary
- Touch up stock scenery and scenery that has been damaged in rehearsal or
performance as necessary
- Coordinate with Shop Foreman in regard to completed scenic elements that are ready to
be teched, finished, or packed
- Prep on site kits for each project to go along with scenic elements
- Inventory and maintain stock of required paint and supplies

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- 5 years of working in a commercial scenic fabrication shop
- Be able to read and interpret renderings and paint specifications
- Ability to handle scenery and materials up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work independently and complete projects on a deadline
- Expert knowledge of Scenic paint standards and techniques
- Expert knowledge of scenic treatments for theatrical purposes
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to set a standard of excellence and inspire a sense of group responsibility among
team members
