-Job Summary: We are looking for highly skilled Costume Workroom Stitchers to join our team! We recently moved into a large, well-equipped facility (with windows!) complete with all the machines and supplies needed to support our growing operation.
-Duties and Responsibilities
⮚ General: Work with the Alterations or Builds Team to Alter, Construct, and repair costumes as assigned by Supervisors.
⮚ Maintain Quality Standards of the Costume Workroom: Stitchers should ensure projects are completed to meet the high-quality standards we have set, with attention to detail in stitching and
finishing techniques. Our Costumes are altered often and for a range of different performers. The stitching done to these garments must be able to withstand multiple uses over a long period of
time. As well as be done in a way that they can easily be altered again while maintaining the integrity and design of the garment.
⮚ Follow Production Schedules: At any given time, there are multiple shows being worked on for multiple ships within the Workroom. Supervisors will assign projects to the teams daily. Stitchers
should adhere to the timelines and due dates set forth for each project.
⮚ Fabric and Material Handling: Utilize the large stock of fabrics and notions available in a way that is mindful to conserving resources and to complete assigned projects.
⮚ Maintain Workroom Inventory and Organization: The workroom has a large stock of supplies that are
readily available. Stitchers should help ensure the daily operations of the Workroom run as smoothly as possible by maintaining the cleanliness and organization of personal and shared
workspaces. Making sure to communicate with Supervisors when supplies are running low so they can be replenished in a timely manner.
⮚ Effective Communication: Regularly update Supervisors on the progress of assigned tasks, any issues encountered, and material or supply needs. We always encourage our teams to ask questions as they occur and make suggestions when appropriate.
-Qualifications
o Degree in Theatrical Costuming or related field preferred but not required.
o Preferred work experience in the following fields:
▪ Theatrical Costuming
▪ Bridal Alterations
▪ Menswear Alterations
▪ Any similar field
-Skills
o Basic to advanced knowledge of hand and machine sewing techniques required for
efficiency in both garment construction and alterations.
o Proficiency in industrial sewing machines preferred.
o Ability to read measurements on a ruler or other measuring device required.
o Basic knowledge of fabrics and their characteristics and applications
o Attention to detail for precise work on intricate and embellished garments.
o Time management and efficiency to ensure projects are completed by due dates given.
o Problem solving, creativity and resourcefulness in troubleshooting issues related to assigned projects.
o Ability to work in an environment where professionalism is expected among many types of people and personalities.
o Willingness to learn and share knowledge when appropriate.
