The Tony-award winning UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a professional theater company in residence at Southern Utah University, is seeking experienced and highly skilled lighting staff for the 2025 season. The Utah Shakespeare Festival produces a six-show repertory season and three Green Shows across three venues in the summer/fall of each year. Position details below.
Contract dates vary by position.

Most build contracts begin April/May and end June/July. Run contracts Begin in May/June and end September/October. Please check dates in specific job descriptions.
- Lighting Crew Lead: Contracts begin at the middle of April and run through early July.
- Lighting Technician: Contracts begin mid April/early May and run through early June with run positions extending as late as mid-October.



Duties and Responsibilities:

-Lighting Crew Lead: The Lighting Crew Lead is responsible for managing the venue lighting team, and installing systems and equipment for each production. The individual is responsible for supporting the Lighting Designer in carrying out the production, and for providing lighting support for all productions in the assigned venue(s).

- Lighting Technician: Responsible for the execution of lighting on a daily basis for all assigned productions. Operates lighting consoles and/or followspot during rehearsals and performances.


Education and Experience Requirements:

Lighting Crew Lead:

-ETC Gio, Gio @5, Ion or similar EOS family console programming experience.
-Programming:
-Collaborate with the Lighting Designer to program lighting cues for rehearsals and performances
-Use lighting control software and consoles to create and modify lighting sequences
-Ensure all lighting cues are accurately programmed and executed according to the production(s)
lighting design
-Experience in all phases of lighting design, electrics procedures and codes. Knowledge of current
lighting technology: ETC nodes; moving lights including Aryton Diablo + Rivale; wireless systems,
dimming and power distribution; and LED technology including LED tape, ETC Lustr, ETC ColorSource
series, ETC Desire series, Martin strip lights, and Elation cyc lights.
-Setup and Maintenance:
-Oversee the setup, installation, and maintenance of lighting equipment, including fixtures,
cables, and control consoles.
-Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on lighting equipment to ensure optimal
performance.
-Maintain an organized inventory of lighting equipment and accessories.
-Working knowledge and proficient maintenance skills with theatrical atmospheric effects including Look
Solutions Tiny line, Unique hazers, and High End fogging systems
-Maintain positive attitude, possess strong leadership skills, high level of organizational,
communication, problem solving skills and ability to work well in a fast paced environment and meet
deadlines
-Proficient computer skills in: Qlab, Lightwright and Vectorworks
-Collaborate with the Light Designer in realizing the visual design of the production(s)
-Open Sound Control and/or User Datagram Protocol experience preferred
-Physical ability to lift and move lighting equipment of various weight and to work from heights (i.e.
ladders, catwalks, grids and genie lifts)


Lighting Technician:

-ETC Gio, Gio @5, Ion or similar EOS family console experience.
-Programming:
-Collaborate with the Lighting Designer to program lighting cues for rehearsals and performances
-Use lighting control software and consoles to create and modify lighting sequences
-Ensure all lighting cues are accurately programmed and executed according to the production(s)
lighting design
-Operation:
-Operate the lighting control system during rehearsals and performances.
-Follow lighting cues precisely and make adjustments as needed during live performances.
-Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise with the lighting system.
-Setup and Maintenance:
-Assist with the setup, installation, and maintenance of lighting equipment, including fixtures,
cables, and control consoles.
-Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on lighting equipment to ensure optimal
performance.
-Maintain an organized inventory of lighting equipment and accessories.
-Operation of Spotlight:
-Operate Lycian M2 2500 spotlight equipment during rehearsals and performances as directed by the
Lighting Designer and Stage Manager
-Follow lighting cues accurately and ensure smooth transitions
-Adjust the focus, size, color, and intensity of the spotlight as required by the production
-Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on spotlight equipment to ensure optimal
performance
-Work closely with the Lighting Designer, Lighting Crew Lead and other production staff to understand
the design vision and technical requirements of each production
-Experience in QLab
-Open Sound Control and/or User Datagram Protocol experience preferred
-Knowledge of Windows and MacOS computer systems
-Background working with Clear-Com Freespeak systems
-Document settings, configurations and preshow/postshow duties.
-Physical ability to lift and move lighting equipment of various weight and to work from heights (i.e.
ladders, catwalks, grids and genie lifts)
