The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sound Assistant to join our production team. The Sound Assistant will support the Sound Department in all aspects of audio production for theatrical performances, including setup, maintenance, and operation of sound equipment. This role requires a solid understanding of audio technology, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fastpaced environment.

Responsibilities:

-Setup and Operation:
-Assist with the setup and breakdown of sound equipment, including microphones, speakers, and mixing consoles, for rehearsals and performances.
-Operate sound equipment during performances as directed by the Head of Audio, A1 or Sound Designer.
-Ensure all sound equipment is functioning properly and troubleshoot any issues that arise during performances.

Maintenance and Repair:
-Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on sound equipment to ensure optimal performance.
-Maintain an organized inventory of all sound equipment and accessories.
-Report any major equipment issues to the Head of Audio.
-Programming and Sound Board Operation:
-Assist in programming the sound board for rehearsals and performances, ensuring accurate execution of sound cues.
-Collaborate with the Head of Audio and Sound Designer to implement and adjust sound designs.
-Document sound board settings and configurations for each production.

Collaboration and Support:
-Work closely with the Head of Audio, Sound Designer, and other production staff to achieve the desired audio effects for each production.
-Assist with sound checks and adjustments during rehearsals and performances.
-Provide support for special audio requirements, such as live music or sound effects.

Documentation and Record Keeping:
-Maintain detailed records of sound equipment settings and configurations for each production.
-Document any issues and repairs performed on sound equipment.

Safety and Compliance:
-Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when handling sound equipment.
-Ensure all sound equipment complies with industry safety standards and regulations.

Qualifications:

-Bachelor+rsquo;s degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, or a related field preferred.
-Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in live sound production, preferably in a theatrical setting.
-Proficiency with sound equipment, including mixing consoles, microphones, and speakers.
-Strong understanding of audio signal flow and sound system setup.
-Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
-Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
-Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours as required by production schedules.
-Physical ability to lift and move heavy sound equipment.

Compensation and Benefits:

-Job Type: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
-Compensation: $18 - $20 per hour (based on experience).
