JOB DESCRIPTION
Theatre by the Sea seeks an experienced Audio Engineer/FOH Sound Mixer (A1) for its 2024 summer season. Working with the Producers, Sound Designer and Production Manager, this full-time exempt position requires at least 40 working hours per week, aligning with the performance schedule of 4 large musical productions, consisting of 8 shows per week, including tech rehearsals, for 4 weeks each, as well as supervising weekly concerts and children+rsquo;s theater performances. The full duration of the contract would run from approximately May 13 to September 22. This job requires strong collaboration skills, technical proficiency in modern sound operation, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive workplace.
RESPONSIBILITES::
+bull; Operating a digital sound console and managing audio/effects playback for live musical performances and technical rehearsals to deliver a consistent professional-quality mix.
+bull; Programming the sound console during technical rehearsals to fine-tune sound levels and effects.
+bull; Collaborating with Sound Designers to maintain, upgrade, or modify audio systems, including equipment inventories, tools, and consumables.
+bull; Overseeing all sound elements and realizing sound designs as envisioned by the Sound Designer, Director, and Producing Artistic Director.
+bull; Following pre-show, show, and post-show accepted professional protocols to operate sound reinforcement systems.
+bull; Leading audio installations, modifications, and strikes of seasonal rep plots while maintaining all audio devices and conducting safety inspections of flown gear for the summer season.
+bull; Supervising an Assistant Sound Technician (A2) to maintain a safe and functional workspace and troubleshoot audio issues during performances, ensuring daily maintenance of wireless microphones and backstage communications.
+bull; Working with Music Directors on sound requirements for the live band, setting up and maintaining pit instruments, and providing audio support to relevant workspaces.
+bull; Effectively communicating with all production departments to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth production runs.
+bull; Maintaining excellent communication with stage management, production staff, and the artistic team throughout the production process.
+bull; Collaborating closely with TBTS staff and other production crew members to maintain a safe and productive working environment, championing diversity and inclusion.
REQUIRED SKILLSET:
+bull; Experience with mixing live musical theater performances, featuring multiple wireless lavalier microphones and a live orchestra utilizing digital audio consoles.
+bull; Knowledgeable in QLab operations, including programming, creating and editing cues.
+bull; Strong understanding of industry standards for audio applications, signal flow, and routing in digital applications.
+bull; Basic understanding of networking concepts as applied in digital audio.
+bull; Experience with wireless RF audio systems.
+bull; Experience with audio system setup and optimization.
+bull; Working knowledge of basic signal flow and gain structure principles.
+bull; Dante certification preferred but not necessary.
