Children+rsquo;s Theatre Company (CTC) is seeking qualified candidates with a background theatrical costume construction and professional theatre or commercial costume production for the position of Cutter/Draper. This is a seasonal benefits eligible position that is guaranteed at least 40 weeks of full-time work each season and is part of a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local 13, AFL-CIO. Per that collective bargaining agreement, in the event that two or more applicants rank equally in hiring criteria, preference of employment will be granted to those who are currently employed by CTC. This position requires someone who is knowledgeable about a wide range of theatrical costume construction techniques and the functions of a professional costume shop and also have the ability to positively contribute to an anti-racist/anti-bias organization. Applicants for this role should have creative problem-solving, project management and interpersonal skills.

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the translation of designer sketches into costumes as assigned. Works with Costume Designers and the Costume Director to deliver completed costumes according to design specifications, production demands and deadlines. Able to produce men+rsquo;s, women+rsquo;s and children+rsquo;s period, contemporary or fantasy pieces.

This position reports to the Costume Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Costume Construction
+bull; Generate patterns using draping, drafting, or flat pattern techniques based on designer renderings and supporting research
+bull; Interpret sketches and adjust fit and proportions of sketched designs to individual actors as assigned
+bull; In consultation with Costume Designer and Costume Director, determine best construction techniques to realize design, making recommendations on fabrics, underpinnings and support structures as needed to create specific silhouettes
+bull; Construct or supervise construction of mock ups for fittings, inducing altering patterns based on fitting information and cutting costumes from corrected patterns
+bull; Construct or supervise construction of costumes using a wide range of fabrics, leather, foam, neoprene and trims
+bull; Pattern and construct all understructures needed for period or fantasy costumes; construct padding, corsets, cages, as dictated by design
+bull; Attend fittings and fit and alter mockups, pulled, purchased or built costumes for desired silhouette and best fit on actor
+bull; Communicate all construction and alteration processes and priorities to First Hand and stitchers and supervise construction as needed
+bull; Coordinate construction as needed with Costume Crafts staff for attachment of headpieces or other costume accessories
+bull; Coordinate construction schedule with Dyer Painter for any fabric modification that needs to occur before, during or after construction so that all processes are complete and meet deadlines
+bull; Participate in the scheduling of costume fittings and pace all project work to meet production deadlines
+bull; Work with Costume Director to communicate best care, repair and handling instructions to wardrobe staff on any specialty fabric or costumes
+bull; Participate in general department activities including but not limited to: warehouse runs to pull and/or restock costumes, organize and inventory shop supplies, clean and restock fitting rooms and work areas

Collaborate with all staff in the furtherance of CTC+rsquo;s goal of being an anti-racist/anti-bias theatre that works towards Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
+bull; Encourage and empower everyone to speak out against racist and/or biased workplace practices and policies
+bull; Study topics that lead to a deeper understanding of how white supremacy, racial violence, and systemic racism have shaped American society and how that shapes CTC+rsquo;s workplace and the lives of CTC employees
+bull; Positively contribute to the ACT One platform, creating a future where our theatre is a home for all people, all families, reflective of our community

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
+bull; Demonstrated knowledge of the functions of a professional costume shop
+bull; Demonstrated skills in and knowledge of construction of costumes using a wide range of fabrics, leather, foam, neoprene and trims and a wide range of construction techniques
+bull; Demonstrated skill in and knowledge of work as a cutter in a professional theatre or high-volume costume shop preferred
+bull; Expertise in use of domestic and industrial sewing machines and sergers

COMPENSATION
The minimum starting wage for this position is $25.21 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance; short-term and long-term disability and life insurance; vacation and sick leave; nine paid holidays; and a 403(b)-retirement savings plan.
