The Phoenix Theatre Company is seeking a full-time First Hand to join their production team.

Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of the First Hand is to cut patterns as directed by the Cutter Draper and facilitate the build while maintaining the vision of the costume designer within the necessary time constraints.

Essential Duties + Responsibilities:
Discusses assigned projects with Cutter Draper and Costume Director
Cut Patterns as assigned by the Cutter Draper
Direct build process as garments move through the shop
Work with the Cutter Draper to organize/manage workflow
Sews assigned costumes by hand or machine
Helps in the supervision of the Costume Shop volunteer apprentice and overhire technicians
Facilitates the construction and alteration of costumes on a scheduled deadline
Tailors or alters costumes, as needed
Assists costume fittings as needed and work to maintain the integrity of the costume design
Assists in the restocking or reorganization of costume warehouse and other storage areas
Works with the Costume Director to ensure all production deadlines can be met
Assists with cleaning and maintaining shop equipment
Assists with stocking and monitoring costume shop supplies by communication with the Costume Director
Maintains a safe working environment based on OSHA standards
Maintains The Phoenix Theatre Company production integrity
Executes costume crafts as needed
Support the wardrobe team in notes, repairs and strike when necessary
Helps prepare fabrics for built garments/cutting

Minimum Qualifications:
A degree in costume technology/fashion or equivalent experience in regional/professional theatre or related fields
Excellent garment construction skills
Able to follow precise directions in a timely manner
Willingness to adhere to the production standards of TPTC
Basic computer skills
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
Ability to work in a diverse team and under strict deadlines

Physical / Mental Demands + Working Conditions:
General office, costume shop and theatre work environment
Evenings and weekends are sometimes required
Ability to lift 40lbs

Compensation/Start Date:
$41,000-$45,000 annually (BOE)
Desired start date: April 2024 but flexible
