STAGES St. Louis seeks Director and Director/Choreographer Interns for the 2026 Season which consists of three musicals: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Guys and Dolls, and Come From Away.
The STAGES St. Louis Internship Programs are designed to train the next generation of theatre professionals in the skills necessary to become successful and integral parts of the theatre community. We combine practical hands-on experience with the opportunity to work with and learn from seasoned theatre professionals. While immersed in the professional world, our interns gain in-depth knowledge and experience in their chosen areas to become well-rounded theatre practitioners.
The Interns will work directly with the Director/Choreographer (if applicable) of the mainstage shows as well as the Artistic Director. Duties for the Directing/Choreographer Interns would include:
- Attending rehearsals
- Taking notes
- Assisting the Director with the realization of their vision in the rehearsal and tech process as needed.
- Assisting the Choreographer and Dance Captain with dance and combinations and musical staging as needed.
The successful applicant is detailed-oriented, self-motivated, works well in a fast-paced environment, and responds with flexibility to the needs of various collaborators and to rapidly changing circumstances. Applicants should demonstrate strong organizational skills, proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a strong sense of humor and maturity.
Contract dates are as follows:
- SPELLING BEE (Director/Choreographer Intern): May 5 - May 29
- GUYS + DOLLS (Director/Choreographer Intern): June 30 - July 24
- COME FROM AWAY (Director Intern): August 25 - September 18
Rehearsal hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10am - 6pm in Chesterfield, Missouri. Tech schedule varies with afternoon/evening hours.
Flexibility with schedule can be discussed if overlapping with the school year.
Compensation:
Compensation is $15/hour. Due to a Missouri State Statue exemption, seasonal employees are paid overtime at 1 1/2 times their rate after 48 hours worked in a given work week. All summer positions are paid biweekly on Fridays.
Interns also receive two complimentary tickets to each production they work on dependent upon availability.
Candidate Requirements:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must:
- Be able to provide local housing in St. Louis for the duration of your internship.
- Be able to work 35 - 40 hours per week of internship.
- Have a valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation.
