Job Title: Temporary Master Carpenter +ndash; Technical Theatre Program
Location: Noble and Greenough School, Dedham, MA
Compensation: $25+ndash;$35 per hour on 1099, commensurate with experience
Position Overview
Noble and Greenough School seeks a temporary skilled Master Carpenter to support our thriving Technical Theatre program during a medical leave. This position plays a key role in the construction and realization of theatrical productions, working closely with the Director and Assistant Director of Technical Theatre + Design, additional theatre faculty and middle and upper school students (grades 7+ndash;12).
Nobles produces 3 mainstage theatre productions ( 2 plays and a musical), a Middle School play, 2 staged readings, a Fall Dance Show, and 7 Concerts a season.
Responsibilities
Lead the construction of scenery for theatrical productions, concerts, and school events.
Interpret and execute from groundplans, draftings, and construction drawings.
Maintain and supervise safe use of all tools and equipment in the scene shop.
Collaborate with the ATD, design and production teams to bring creative concepts to life.
Mentor, train, and supervise students in technical theatre skills and shop safety.
Support the overall technical operations of the theatre program as needed.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of theatrical construction techniques (wood, metal, rigging).
Proficiency with a wide range of shop tools and machinery.
Ability to read and translate construction drawings into finished projects.
Experience working in educational or youth-focused environments preferred.
Welding, knowledge of lighting/electrics, and familiarity with Q-Lab is a plus.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment.
Requirements
Ability to teach and mentor students in grades 7+ndash;12.
Successful completion of all required background checks.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends during production periods.
