Bristol Riverside Theatre is a mid-sized regional theatre whose mission is to engage audiences and artists alike with exceptional performances, inspired writing, and superior productions that motivate us to think harder, to feel more deeply, to laugh more joyfully, and to reflect on ourselves and the world in which we live. Located in the historic district of Bristol Borough, the theatre has a full-time staff of 11 employees. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds and perspectives and reflects our community. We offer over 200 performances per year including 5 mainstage theatre productions, 3-8 presented theatre productions, and 4-8 concerts. BRT operates under a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local 8, representing the stagehands employed at the theatre.

Position Overview:
We're looking for a detail-oriented Head Carpenter to join our House Crew. This is a part-time, year-round position. The Head Carpenter oversees a variety of productions and events, ensuring that each set is installed safely, efficiently, and to a high artistic standard. The Head Carpenter works closely with the Technical Director, Production Manager, Designers, and overhire carpenters to supervise the installation of sets built offsite, oversee load-ins and load outs, make adjustments during technical rehearsals, and manage sets throughout production runs. This role requires leadership skills, technical expertise, and a passion for the arts. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Assists the Technical director in supervising installation of scenery
-Leads and manages carpentry crews
-Collaborates with other departments to ensure smooth coordination and communication of design specifications.
-Ensures a safe working environment for all crew members.
-Manages carpentry adjustments during tech rehearsals and throughout the show's run.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
-2+ years experience in a professional technical theatre environment
-Ability to build and maintain sets
-Experience with theatrical rigging
-Strong organizational skills, written, and verbal communication skills
-The ability to interpret technical drawings and plans.
-Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 75 lbs.
-Must be comfortable climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and working in varying positions as required.

SCHEDULE AND HOURS
This part-time position requires flexibility, with hours varying based on production needs. Weekly hours range from 4-16 hours for show maintenance, presented events, and rentals; to 40+ hours during peak periods. Schedules are planned in advance.

BENEFITS
-Contributions to the IATSE National Benefits Fund per the current CBA (12% as of the 25-26 season).
-Overtime pay after 8 hours daily or 40 hours weekly, as well as on predetermined holidays.
