Pepperdine University in Malibu California is seeking a scenic artist for productions of the spring semester (Nov.30, 2026 through May 2, 2027). The scenic artist will work alone and/or with student crews in the paint shop, or on stage, while construction is happening with other students in the adjoining shop with the Scene Shop Supervisor and Lead Carpenter. Some weekend loadin work will also be scheduled when needed. The scenic artist will be responsible for the painting of all scenery, scenic units and furniture. The scenic artist will also provide assistance to the properties designer with painting if needed. Skills in color mixing, scenic painting and texture work are necessary. The ability to plan accordingly and communicate with the shop is also necessary. This position, when available, should not hesitate in the prep of scenery for the paint shop if needed as well as maintain the paint area and its equipment. An undergraduate degree in Theatre is preferred.
