JOB TITLE: Stitcher
REPORTS TO: Head Draper, Asst. Costume Shop Manager and Costume Shop Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION RATE: $27.33 per hour
LOCATION: 170 N. Dearborn Street +ndash; Chicago, IL 60601
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Goodman Theatre is seeking a stitcher responsible for constructing, altering, and finishing assigned costumes within established deadlines. This position requires strong technical sewing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a costume shop environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform both hand and machine sewing using a variety of industrial and domestic machines.
- Execute construction tasks, including but not limited to:
- Fabric preparation and cutting
- Garment alterations and repairs
- Costume construction and finishing
- Routine maintenance of costumes as needed
- Handle garment care, including laundry, steaming, pressing, and ironing, as assigned.
- Help support the organization and upkeep of costume stock and related resources.
- Maintain organization of garments, supplies, tools, and equipment in the workspace.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.
- Follow all directions accurately and promptly as given by the Head Draper, Shop Management, or designated project leader.
QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2 years of professional sewing experience preferred.
- Theatrical sewing experience is desirable but not required.
- Proven proficiency in both hand and machine sewing techniques.
- Skilled in operating commercial and industrial sewing machines.
- Strong garment construction knowledge and technical ability.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete work efficiently within deadlines.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
