We are seeking a talented, creative, and compassionate Costume Designer to join our Youth Theatre program for a full season of performances. This is an event-based role around the production schedule requiring collaboration throughout the cycle of each show. The Costume Designer will work closely with the Managing Director of SDCJC and the Creative Manager of JCompany to develop and implement the visual concept for all costumes, from initial sketches to final fittings.
A love of working with children, a positive and patient demeanor, and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role. You+rsquo;ll be a key contributor to the magic of live youth theatre, creating a supportive and fun environment where young performers can shine.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with leadership to design and execute the costume vision for each production in alignment with show concepts and direction.
Source, design, alter, and/or build costumes for all shows in the season.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and encouraging work environment for all young performers.
Communicate clearly with cast and parents regarding costume requirements, including providing budget-friendly links and sourcing options prior to first rehearsal.
Prepare costumes for promotional photography shoots approximately three weeks after rehearsals begin.
Organize and lead a post-show wrap-up and costume workday to inventory, clean, and store costumes.
Attend and participate in production meetings, fittings, and dress rehearsals as needed.

Qualifications + Experience:
Strong background in theatrical costume design, with experience in youth or educational theatre preferred.
Must have sewing and tailoring skills
Demonstrated ability to work with children and teens in both group and one-on-one settings.
Prior experience in teaching or leading costume-related workshops for youth is highly desirable.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.


Ability to communicate professionally with staff, cast members, and parents.
Calm, patient, and joyful demeanor, with a passion for nurturing young artists.
Strong sense of personal responsibility and ability to work independently.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. (e.g., costume bins, equipment).
May need to move furniture or adjust workspace layouts before fittings or rehearsals.
Regular verbal communication with staff, cast, and parents required.
Must be able to pass a LiveScan and background check
