Rate: $20-25 per hour (based on experience), time and a half over 40

General Statement of Job Function: The Scenic Artist Overhire is responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all paint and surface treatments assigned to them by the Charge Scenic Artist (CSA) or Lead Scenic Artist (LS).
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Paint and finish all scenic elements including priming, texturing, sculpting, and applying scenic details designed by the Scenic Designer and CSA.
Assist in creating paint + surface treatments and/or sculpture samples.
Assist in periodic upkeep/touch-up of painted elements during the run of a production.
Help with organizing and cleaning the Paint Shop and paint area, keeping track of inventory and maintaining shop supplies and tools.
Inventory and stock items when needed.
Assist in the creation of a +ldquo;touch-up kit+rdquo; for productions.
Maintain a clean and safe workspace.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the CSA in supporting other production departments with craft construction and paint treatments.
Assist in the acquisition of shop materials.
Assist with other scenic artists' transportation needs when requested and available.
Maintain a clean and safe workspace and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications + Skills: At least 2 years experience in scenic painting; Strong knowledge of painting techniques and mixing; Ability to work within tight deadlines; Experience with safe handling of hazardous shop materials; Availability nights, weekends, and the occasional Holiday.
Preferred Qualifications + Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work comfortably on ladders (up to and including 18 feet high); Ability to lift a full 5-gallon bucket; Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of coworkers at different levels of skill and knowledge; Ability to troubleshoot problems calmly and efficiently under pressure.
