Seagle Festival Scenic Carpenter
Seagle Festival, a 110-year-old summer training program for aspiring opera and
musical theater performers, is seeking a Scenic Carpenter. Production season
includes 4 main stage productions (two operas, two musicals) in a small, 175-
seat house with a 26+rsquo; proscenium. Additional productions include a small touring
children+rsquo;s opera and several concerts and events. 2025 season productions
include PIRATES OF PENZANCE, CARMEN, MAYO BUCKNER, ANYTHING GOES
and MONKEY +amp; FRANCINE IN THE CITY OF TIGERS (children+rsquo;s opera).
Contract dates are June 9 to August 24, 2025.
Compensation offered is $550 per week, on campus housing (private room,
shared bath), all meals on working days, plus $400 travel stipend. In-season
workweek is 6 days with 1 day off.
Duties:
- Participate in the construction of scenery to assure execution of all production
requirements for all main stage productions, includes some painting.
- Participate in all load-ins and strikes.
- Supervision and instruction of any scenic intern(s).
- Work in a safe and productive manner.
- Perform other theatrical/technical duties as assigned, including serving on
running crew if necessary.+nbsp;+nbsp;
Requirements:
- Knowledge of wood construction, fabrication techniques and scenic
engineering, familiarity with power tools and shop equipment, welding ability a
plus
- Understanding of how to interpret construction drawings. Basic CAD/Vector
works skills a plus.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Preferred at least 1 year experience in a scenic shop, either professionally or
the at the university level.
- Excellent personal, organizational, time management and communication skills.+nbsp;
- Ability to motivate, manage and coordinate staff and company members of
varying skill levels.+nbsp;
- Ability to adapt quickly to varying projects and problems
- Ability to climb and work on a ladder up to 18+rsquo;
- Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds
- Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Must have drivers license and clean driving record.
