Overview of position:
The Sound/Scenery Swing is responsible for set-up, operation, and live mixing of sound equipment for each production in addition to assisting with the safe, accurate, and timely construction of all scenic elements as assigned by the Master Carpenter or Director of Production. Daily work assignments and project deadlines are set by the Director of Production.
All production staff assist in the hang and focus of the light plot for each show and should have a basic understanding of or willingness to learn simple lighting practices.
This position is full time, 40 hours per week, paid hourly. Occasional overtime will be necessary, paid at time and a half. When a show is not running, the work week is typically Monday through Friday, 8am-6pm, with Wednesdays off in addition to weekends. Nights and weekends will be required for tech rehearsals and performances. Housing is provided and consists of a private room with shared bathroom and kitchen spaces. The housing is walkable from the theatre. Parking is also provided if needed.
This paid, full-time position is geared for those early in their career. Candidates with interest in sound engineering or scenic carpentry but limited experience are encouraged to apply if they possess the strong desire and willingness to learn. We are happy to train the right candidate. Contract starts as soon as January 2025 and runs through December 2025, with the possibility to extend further.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
-Provides support in all aspects of audio production for theatrical performances, including:
-Mix live audio for performances, ensuring clarity and consistency by adjusting audio settings in real-time
-Load-in and strike of all sound components, including wireless microphones, in-ear monitors, programming QLab and sound console, and video playback and displays.
-Setup and breakdown of wireless microphones for tech rehearsal and performances, including performing pre-show mic checks
-Troubleshoot any issues that arise during performances
-Perform minor repairs and maintenance on sound equipment during shows
-Design work available if desired
-Complete all projects assigned in an efficient and safe manner, while maintaining a high standard of quality.
-Assist in the construction and installation, and strike of scenic pieces for each show
-Participate in the transportation and handling of scenery and props between offsite storage location and the theatre
-Practice safe and appropriate use of tools, equipment, and construction materials.
-Recognize, troubleshoot, and report problems calmly and efficiently under pressure.
-Maintain a clean, safe, respectful, and collaborative work environment

Qualifications (preferred but not required):
-Theatre degree with a technical emphasis or equivalent experience is strongly preferred
-Sound engineering and installation experience, especially in a theatrical setting
-Strong troubleshooting skills
-Some experience with sound design, including recording and editing sound effects
-Some stagecraft experience and skills, including knowledge of standard theatrical carpentry and scene shop tools
-Must be capable of the typical physical activity associated with production work, including lifting and carrying 50 pounds, climbing flights of stairs and ladders, and handling of power equipment
-Ability to work at heights including on ladders or lifts
-Attention to detail
-Some theatrical lighting knowledge or willingness to learn
-Valid driver+rsquo;s license
-Good sense of humor
-Possess a positive work ethic and collaborative spirit
