The Touring Stage Manager will join the 2025 tour of axes, herbs and satchels for NYC staging rehearsals and three out-of-state performance engagements. This position works directly with the two co-directors of the production and the company Tour Manager. Our ideal candidate is confident, mature and motivated, is a creative problem solver, a joyful collaborator, a strong communicator who is highly organized with excellent follow-through skills. The stage manager will be joining a women-led team of committed theater artists in a Black-centered creative space.


The Touring Stage Manager will be an integral part of the rehearsal process in NYC from approximately January 11- February 19, 2025 and will then travel with the company for each of the touring engagements: February 19 + 20 (local), February 22-24 and March 4-6. There will be at least one pick-up rehearsal and one production meeting scheduled between the tour dates. Air and ground travel, food and accommodations (shared double room) are provided. COMPENSATION: This position has a fee of $2,750. Payment will be made on a 1099; paid in regular installments via ACH. This is a non-union position.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
- Provide scheduling support for rehearsals.
- Learn and preserve production blocking and calling notes
- Prepare paperwork including contact sheets, daily calls, rehearsal and performance calendars, rehearsal reports, props lists, tracking notes.
- Work with the Tour Manager to understand, distribute and manage day-of logistics while on tour.
- Participate in production and management meetings, both pre-production and after opening.
- Ensure show integrity with all scenic elements, props, costumes, etc.; checks space/items for safety and condition.
- Oversee pre-show and post-show checks of lighting, sound, video, etc. systems, as well as sign-in and preparation of cast and crew.
- Pack and track all costume, prop and other design + production materials traveling with the show.
- Supervise load in and load out at the performance venue.
- Run technical rehearsals at each venue (3), including working with co-directors and venue technicians to create lighting looks at each venue.
- Call light and sound cues during the performance (venues provide technician).
- Circulate performance reports with all relevant show summaries, requests for repair/replenishment, and miscellaneous notes.
- Adhere to and uphold show safety protocols, COVID safety protocol and drug free workplace policies.
- Attending IDEA training with Theatre Advocacy Project (de-escalation and intervention training)
- Be a partner in maintaining our anti-oppressive and anti-racist working values; adhering to the company+rsquo;s Code of Conduct and Community Agreements and interrupting and reporting actions or behaviors that go against them.

Qualifications and Experience
- 2-5 years stage management experience, previous touring experience a plus.
- Proficient in QLab
have familiarity with basic technical theatre equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with co-workers and venue personnel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask.
- Ability to maintain poise and control under pressure.
- Experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

DURATION

Start Date: Pre-production meetings in November/December; Rehearsals commencing January 11 (tentative).

End Date: March 15 (includes post-tour debrief).

Tentative rehearsal schedule: Rehearsals will span January 11-February 19, exact schedule TBD (Evenings and weekends with some weekdays). In-person rehearsals will be in Manhattan and/or Brooklyn.

COVID POLICY
We strongly recommend that all artists and staff working on the tour be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, with boosters, if applicable. Producers will take all necessary precautions, including masking and regular testing, in order to maintain the highest standards of health and safety possible, and to ensure that there are no disruptions to the production. COVID safety guidelines will be finalized before the start of rehearsals.

ABOUT axes, herbs and satchels
Rooted in the history and embodied wisdom of doulas and midwives, axes, herbs and satchels is a celebration of traditional knowledge held in the Black birth worker community and a potent examination of maternal mortality. The play is devised from an array of research materials; first hand accounts, medical textbooks, ethnological research, and primary sources documenting grand midwives and the history of midwifery. This production features a cast of 6 Black/BIPOC performers, a minimalist set design with lush sound and ambitious costume design, and runs approximately 85 minutes.
